HIS LIFE

Born in February 1818 and died on February 20, 1895, Douglass was an American orator, abolitionist, publisher and official.

Sent to Captain Aaron Anthony’s Wye House plantation, owned by Colonel Edward. He discovered a lot of violence there.

He was raised by his grandmother Betsey Bailey along with other slaves.

Her mother was Harriet Bailey. She died when he was seven. Only when he grew up did he know it was his mother.

He was able to buy his first book by selling boots, which allowed him to form his own opinion about slavery. And learned to write.

He was sent to the Auld family to look after the son Thomas. He learned to read thanks to Madame Auld but it is forbidden to teach reading to slaves so Monsieur Auld refuses. But continue to learn to read with the lessons of white children.
