The histoRy of the clock

The Big Ben was originally part of a new structure built to replace the old Palace of Westminster that had previously burned down. The construction was entrusted to Edward Dent in 1846, and it finished in 1859.

How does The clock works

The clock works with a novel gravity escapement that imparted unprecedented accuracy. It is wound three times a week and is accurate to within two seconds per week, thanks to the addition of pennies to the pendulum, that cause the Big Ben to gain 0.4 second per day
