Listening to hunger cues helps grow a positive self-image

Staying healthy through intuitive eating

Start

Intuitive eating is one of the most useful tools a teen can have while navigating high school. Learn more about intuitive eating, self love and body neutrality.

Tune Into Intuitive Eating

Step 6

Love yourself! Intuitive eating plays a large role in appreciating all of the things our bodies allow us to do.

Step 4

Begin identifying your hunger cues and follow them. Allow yourself to eat when you are hungry.

Step 2

Stop measuring every aspect of life. You are worth more than the number on a scale.

Step 5

Eat the things you are craving. Eating the foods you crave is better for the mind than waiting to eat them for a long time.

Step 3

Remember that you're allowed to eat foods that you enjoy!

Step 1

Reject toxic diet culture: no "miracle" diet is actually productive to mental and physical wellbeing.

When being body positive is difficult, body neutrality helps to stay away from negativity.

A positive alternative

Value and take time for mental activities instead of worrying about body image.

Mind over matter

Rather than thinking "good" or "bad" about features, accept the purpose of them and their value.

Acceptance of circumstance

Recognize the body for what it allows us to do every day, even simple tasks.

The body's capabilities

While body positivity is good for mental well-being, another interesting approach to self-image is body neutrality. Rather than focusing on very positive or negative ends of the spectrum, body neutrality recognizes the body simply for what it is.

What is body neutrality, and why can it be helpful?

Think positively about others

Understanding hunger cues comes with time - tune into what the body is conveying.

Understand and watch for hunger cues

Focus on the body's incredible ability to alert for hunger and fullness rather than body image.

Value the mind and its abilities

Many celebrities promote unhealthy, unsustainable diets - leave behind toxic influences.

Step away from the screen

Recognize when you're unable to make the journey alone, there's no shame in asking for help.

When concerned, talk to a professional

Don't shame others for outward appearance - this leads to a negative mindest for everyone.

In addition to intuitive eating, practice thinking body-positive or neutral thoughts.

Self love comes in many forms
