How does this occur?
XYY sydrome occurs when there's a cell division error in the sperm prior to conseption. It is a autsomal dominant trait because it has only been found in males.
What type of mutation causes this.
Usually males only have one X and one Y but the presence of another Y chromosome causes this.
Which chromosome does it occur on.
I don't really understand this question, but it happens when there is an extra Y chromosome.
What is the frequency of occurence.
XYY syndrome occurs in only 1 out of 1000 males. This happens in pregnancies of women of any age and ethicity.
What are some risk factors?
Some boys with this may be taller than other boys and can easily get acne. Also XYY sydrome is not usually inherited.
What are some syptoms.
This is not for every case but for some they develop learning disabilities or behavioral problems.
Who are some famous people with this syndrome?
I was not able to find any famous/historic figures with this syndrome, but I was able to find serial killers with it. Robert Peter Tait, Daniel Hugon, and John Farley.
What techniques are used for prenatal diagnosis of XYY syndrome?
They examine the cells from the amniotic fluid or placenta of the fetus. When that is studied the chromosomes are examined.
Are there any treatments for this?
Unfortunately there's no cure for this, but there are treatments for certain symptoms.
Are there any ethical issues involved with the treatment or diagnosis of the disease?
Im going to be completely honest, I can't find a clear yes or no answer.
