WWI trenches
What are trenches and what was their purpose?
Trenches were long, narrow ditches dug into the ground where soldiers lived during war. They were very muddy, uncomfortable and the toilets overflowed. They were used for protection against weaponry. The soldiers dug the trenches themselves and used them to not get shot at when at during an attack.
What types of trenches were there in WWI
There were 4 types of trenches used during WWI.
Front-line trench The Front-line trench was used for firing weaponary and attacking the enemy. Support Trench The support trench was usually 100 yard behind the front-line trench and was used to keep soldiers and supplies for the front-line trench. Reserve Trench The reserve trench was 100 yards behind the support trench. The reserve trench was used to keep soldiers and supplies incase the front-line trench was overrun or attacked by the enemy. Communication trench The communication trench connected the front-line, support, and reserve trenches and enabled the movement of messages, supplies, and men through the other three trenches.
Trenches were important because they protected soldiers from oncoming attacks, such as bullets, from the enemy

Typhus
Typhus was a disease during WWI. There were many symptoms like, high fever, headache, chills, numbness, and generalized body pains. The disease first spread through prisoners and refugees but came to the troops later on
Malaria
Malaria was a life-threatening disease if it wasn't cured in the early stages of the symptoms. Malaria infected 617,150 allied troops with 3,865 deaths during WW1. Symptoms of malaria include fever and flu-like illness, including shaking chills, headache, muscle aches, and tiredness.
Influenza
Influenza, known as the flu, had the most severe pandemic in recent history. Influenza killed 45,000 soldiers during WWI and killed more American soldiers and sailors during WW1 than then enemy did. Influenza got many people sick by traveling from military camp to military camp. The virus also spready across the atlantic causing more people to get infected.
These diseases alone killed many soldiers and civilians during WW1. These 3 diseases impacted WW1 a lot. Many people died and for no reason at all.
