Paleogene Period

Pleistocene Epoch

The Ice Age began.Rapid cooling happened on the planet which resulted in the mass extinction of many mammals in North America.

The conteinents at this time began to drift farther apart, moving towards their modern positions. Mammals began to thrive at this time.

Major Events

Cenozoic Era

The Dinosaur Extinction event started off the Cenozoic Era as mammals began to develop around the planet. The Earth became cooler and dryer which is closer to the current climate that we see today. Primates originated and developed into modern day humans. Forests began to become dominant as the climate cooled and the grasslands expanded. Plants began to look very close to modern day vegitation.

The Third Major Era

Cenozoic means "recent life" which fits the description of the era at hand. Primates started to develop as well as modern Earth landscape and vegitation.

Holocene Epoch

The Epoch that we currently live in. Earth entered a warming period that ended the Ice Age. Humans began to learn agriculture and society started to form.

The Cenozoic Era is split amongst many periods in which there were extinction events followed by the development of different species.
