The Paleogene Period was a period of suprisingly tropical climate. The air was warm and moist which allowed tropical plants such as palm trees to grow as far north as Greenland, based on fossil records. It's climate could most closely be compared to that of the Florida Everglades during the summer.

The Paleogene Period

Though the Paleogene Period accounts for less than 1% of geological time, it sees some pretty important animals evolve, such as horses and elephants towards the begining, and dogs, cats, and pigs towards the end.

At the beginning of the Paleogene Period and the end of the Creteacous Period occured a mass extinction commonly refferred to as the K-Pg or K-T extinction event. This extinction wiped off around two thirds of the planet's population at the ime.
