Fun Facts:

The Jurassic Period

  • Dramatic global warming in this period, acording to an article published by nature on palaeoceanography, triggered the release of methane, occurring in the early jurassic period and contributed to its warm climate.
  • The first primitve bird (Archaepteryx) appeared in the Jurassic period.
  • Igneous rocks from this period provided uranium and gold in the Sierra Nevada mountain range and were mined in the Gold rush
This period lasted 56 million years, and ocurred 201.3-145 million years ago

Major Events in this period:

  • Tectonic plates started shifting and accelerating Pangeas separation
  • Had a climate that was hot but huid, allowing life to flourish on Earth
  • Rise of sea levels changed the climate following this period
During this time period, Pangea's fragmentation was accelerated and the climate was generally warm, but temperatures began to drop in the middle-late jurassic period.
