The Hadean Eon
Named after Hades, the Greek Lord of the Underworld, the Hadean Eon is the earliest eon in geological time. It lasted from 4.6 to 4 billion years ago.
- Earth was still 'fresh out of the oven'.
- It was very hot with oceans of lava.
- Lightning strikes occurred during this time.
- It was not uncommon for comets and meteors to strike the earth.
- No fossils were found.
- However, there was evidence of biogenic carbon which is defined as carbon that was once used by and part of living things.
- This could mean that there was life (possibly microscopic) back then.
