Synopsis

I want to go home

  • Set in 2038, the movie follows a scientist George Almore who is on the verge of making a breakthrough. In a secret laboratory,
  • He is developing a humanoid robot, the latest prototype of which, J3, is almost complete.
  • Each model is an increasingly advanced replica of his wife Jules, who died in a brutal car accident. Driven by his undying love for her, George has deliberately not disclosed the true purpose of his research: to create a perfect clone of his wife.

Main themes

This is your home

  • "Archive" offers an interesting take on the idea of grief in a futuristic world, where it would be easy to replace the dead with humanoids that look like them.
  • But the movie also deals with the theme of replacement. Unable to grieve, George looks for a way to replace his wife. Instead of persevering with a robot model, he creates a new one and replaces it with this one. This is much easier than trying to move on.

Evolution of the plot

At the beginning, the movie offers a rather calm start, with beautiful landscapes. The main character seems quite ordinary, we don't have the traces of pain on his physique.

The backstage changes, the movie becomes darker with the character's past marking the viewer, we understand his pain, we feel empathy little by little.

Personal opinion :

- The character of Georges fascinates me by the fact that he is very touching by his story but what marked me the most is the fact that even if he does not manage to turn the page he appears to be a person who is in a phase of acceptance in the mourning : he has all the same the desire to recreate a life whereas he is all the same concentrated at the bottom on his project to make his wife live again, the atmosphere is rather strange. - I liked the movie quite well even if I took some time to understand this movie because some events happening early in the movie are not easy to understand because the context is not explained it is up to the viewer alone to understand the plot. - When I watched this movie I felt: incomprehension in front of certain scenes, fear sometimes, anxiety in front of the presence of the robots I was always afraid throughout the movie that they would revolt against George.

it's beautiful here Recognition in the characters

but the character of J2 sometimes had feelings that were close to what I have felt in my life which facilitated my adoration of the movie.

I often found myself in the character of Georges because of his sensitivity, his way of reacting to grief, his calmness in all situations despite the pain he feels deep inside

Recommended ?

I recommend this movie if you want to understand the state of a person in mourning and see a film with an artificial intelligence treatment different from other science fiction movies

Similarities with "Archive" ?

Opening :

  1. The difference is that Victor wants to relive a moment in his life while George wants to relive his wife.
2. The common point is that humans are always attached to a scene they have experienced in their lives and they have a lifelong desire to find a way to relive it, either to change it or to re-experience the feelings experienced at that time.

'Archive" is similar to the 2019 movie "La Belle Époque",
