INTRODUCTION

Magnesium flash powder (PHOTOGRAPY)

It is thanks to the magnesium studies by Bonson and Roscoe (british) that later Edward Sonstadt together with William Mather produced the magnesium ribbon used in the early stages of photography to simulated the daylight.

Phosphor

A British pharmacist named John Walker invented the match by accident

Friction matches gave people the unprecedented ability to light fires quickly and efficiently, changing domestic arrangements and reducing the hours spent trying to light fires using more primitive means

Walker did not divulge the exact chemical composition or apply for a patent for his matches and match-making became common in England

Refrigerators

From the ancient times, we tried to preserve food by keeping it cold. At first we used ice harvested from rivers and lakes but then appeared refrigerators.

Basis for refrigerator appeared in 1755 when Scottish professor William Cullen designed a small refrigerating machine. This machine had a pump and a container of diethyl ether. Pump made vacuum in the container which lowered the boiling point of the ether. Boiling ether absorbed the heat from the surrounding air.

Television

These early televisions started appearing in the early 1800s. They involved mechanically scanning images then transmitting those images onto a screen.

This device was created independently by two inventors: Scottish inventor John Logie Baird and American inventor Charles Francis Jenkins. Both devices were invented in the early 1920s.

Currently, it is one of the most important inventions made by the United Kingdom, which is still relevant, for daily use both to watch movies, series, news and much more.

SEISMOGRAPH

They are instruments used to record the motion of the ground during an earthquake. They are installed in the ground throughout the world and operated as part of a seismographic network.

The Bicycle

In 1868 the british engineer James Starley became interested in bicycle improvement. His first bicycle, the Coventry, was quickly followed by the Ariel (1871), notable for its use of centre pivot steering. Considered the first true bicycle by many historians, the Ariel was the immediate precursor of the high-wheel ordinary and was the standard of bicycle design for the next decade.

PNEUMATIC TYRE

Development of the pneumatic tyres came in two stages, both by Scottish inventors.

Chocolate Bar

For much of the 19th century, chocolate was enjoyed as a beverage; milk was often added instead of water. In 1847, British chocolatier J.S. Fry and Sons created the first chocolate bar molded from a paste made of sugar, chocolate liquor and cocoa butter.
