It has been said that in Indigenous cultures “the central purpose of life was the education and empowerment of children” (Brendtro et al. 44). Starr Commonwealth’s Circle of Courage® model works as a framework for empowerment and education through restoring a sense of belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity in children and youth. Following from this approach, the principles of the Circl of Courage (Brendtro et al.) set the stage for an inclusive education system wherein children and youth can find success and empowerment.
