1. INTRODUCTION

I was never an athlete beyond the school demands. Around the age of 40 I discovered yoga and its benefits. I don't defend myself in the water and at the age of 50 I must overcome the challenge of learning to swim on the recommendation of my rheumatologist, I must achieve movement, strength and flexibility. At 60 I must strengthen healthy habits around food and sports.

2. WHEN TO START?

The sooner the better, any age is good, there is always an exercise suitable for any weight, discomfort, age or situation.

3. WHAT SPORT?

The one you like, or can do according to your reality and situation. Asking professionals for advice is the right thing to do to achieve healthy habits without harming yourself. The will, perseverance and discipline are good tools to carry out the chosen sport with joy on a constant basis.

4. PREVENTION

Anticipating the problem, in any situation, is the most appropriate, not waiting for the need to play sports. But it has been shown that there are ailments that improve and that you can get into the habit of playing sports while improving your physical and emotional state.

5. MAINTENANCE

It is the phase that follows the initiation, in mature age, it is essential to keep the body active and in motion, each one will perform the appropriate exercise according to their needs, always guided by professionals to improve the level of muscular strength, resistance and flexibility. .

6. CHANGE HABITSS

It's never too late, if you want to, and you value the health and mood benefits. It is possible that when you start, it is difficult for you, you do not find the time, you are lazy... " if you want you cant". Do not look for excuses and put your mind in the mode "if I take care of myself, I improve my quality of life and the people I love and care about". Come on, today can be a great day to start!

7. REDUCE MEDICATION

It has been shown that sport secretes substances called endorphins that help improve certain physical and emotional illnesses, while reducing stress and anxiety. Doing sports continuously can favor the reduction and/or elimination of the use of medications.

8. EMOTIONS

The feelings and emotions derived from well-being are evident. By doing individual and/or collective exercise, we experience experiences of overcoming, contact and relationship that accelerate other substances dopamine, serotonin and endorphin Essential to feel emotionally well. On the other hand, we are social beings, we need to be part of a group and feel recognized and identified; the generally collective or group sport is key to achieving this “creating a family”.

9. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

At the beginning I commented that I arrived at an advanced age to discover the advantages of sport. Now 63 years old, I can tell you what to do: • YOGA gives me flexibility, concentration, inner silence, physical and mental balance. • SWIMMING increases my strength, coordination, overcoming challenges. • WALKING helps me discover new rural and urban landscapes, while revealing my possibilities and limitations.
