Neodymium is emitted into the environment in many different places, mainly by the petrol manufacturing industries. It can also enter the environment when appliances are thrown away.

neodynium is especially dangerous in the workpplace, as dust and gases can be inhaled with the air. This is can cause pulmonary embolisms, particulary during long-therm exposure. Neodynium can be a threat to the liver when it builds up in the human body
