Solutions

  • Homogeneous (one phase )
  • 2 or more substances
  • solute dissolves in solvent to form solution(consists of a solute and a solvent)
  • Solute doesn't disappear when a solution is formed.
  • Particles in a solution are not visible to the naked eye
  • cannot be separated using simple mechanical filtration.
  • it may be gaseous, solid or liquid
  • all solutions are transparent
  • mass is conserved when solution is formed

5.

Soluable & slightly soluble

When the solute is solid, it is called a soluble solid.

Which compounds are soluble in water?

1. All nitrates are soluble in water 2. Carbonates of sodium, Potassium and Ammonium are soluble 3. Hydroxides of Sodium, Potassium and Ammonium are soluble in water 4. All chlorates, Perchlorates and acetates are soluble in water 5. All sulphates are soluble except sulphates of Barium , Strontium, and lead 6. All fluorides are soluble except Fluorides of Magnesium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium and Lead.

Slightly soluble materials are those, which have low solubility.

Nitrogen and oxygen is slightly soluble gases

miscible liquids immscible liquids

⚠ warning⚠ Water is not only solvent. Some substances that are insoulble in the water will dissolve in other solvents. For instance- some types of ink are soluble in alchol but not in water

Acetic acid

Gasoline (Petrol) and Deisel Gasoline

Mocktail

Wine

Lemonade

the term miscible refers to the ability to mix a compound with another compound to make a homogeneous mixture, whereas the term soluble refers to the ability of a certain compound to dissolve in a solvent.

  1. If we keep adding a solube solid to a beaker of water there comes a point when no more of solid will dissolve. Then we have made a saturated solution.
  2. Unsaturated solutions contain more solvent than solute. If some more solid added tovolume of water in neaker with strring until all of it dissoloved, it's unsaturated solution.
  3. Supersaturated solution is effect of temperature on saturated solution. It has dissolved more more amount of solute than can be dissolved by solvent (not in room tem)

Solubility

  • Solubility is a measure of how much of a solute will dissolve in a solvent

keywords1. saturated? 2.Concentrated solution? 3. dilute solution?

5.temperature, pressure, and the nature of solute and solvent or amount

Most solute will dissolve more quickly and easily in hot water than in cold water. We can also dissolve a great mass of solute in hot water than in the same volume of cold water.

As temperature increases, the solubility of most solutes also increases.

Pressure- With the increase in partial pressure in gases, solubility increases.

Solubility increases with an increase in pressure.
