As you can probably see, it consists of three colours, saffron, white and India green; with the famous Ashoka Chakra in the centre. Did you know what they represent?

Traditional Indian cuisine

- India is known as the spice patiala of the world, and the cuisine consists of a very traditional and regional foods native to India. These cuisines uses local available spices, herbs, vegetables and fruits. North and South india have very different types of cuisines. In north india food is less spicy compared to south India. There are also over 200 deserts, ranging from gulab jamun to kulfi.

Womens' Traditional clothing

women usually wear saris (pieces of fabric wrapped around the body in different ways) made of materials eg cotton, silk or salwar kameez, a more casual shirt-and-pant comboclothing in the East and North consist more of lehenga cholis, long skirts and short choli tops, whereas the South traditionally wear more saris and children wear pattu langa.

  • there are more than three hundred languages and dialects
  • India recognises 22 official languages, eg Bengali, Tamil, Marathi and Punjabi but the national language is Hindi
  • Hindi is mostly spoken in the North, but can be understood everywhere
  • all the languages come from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language, oldest and considered 'Mother of all languages'

- Indian classical music has been passed down from generation to generation for more than 6,000 years.​- Although the music varies between the north and the south of India, the pieces share a common idea of having three main parts. ​ - The first is the raga, a single melody line. ​ - The second part is the constant fixed note called a drone. ​ - The third part is the tala which is the rhythm.
