Finance, Leave it or Save it? - Robert
After bills each month he has £500 spare which you can be saved. If Robert takes the car on finance he will be paying for it for 5 years at £170 per month and a £300 deposit. Due to an offer he will only be paying 5% on your first 5 payments. Insurance will be £100 per month and fuel being £50 per month.
Robert is looking to buy this car for a price of £10,000 . You will now need to plan on how achievable this is for him with his wage and whether he should save, take it on finance or not have the car.
You will need to think about : How much will it cost? Any ongoing costs? (Fuel and insurance) How much extra you will pay with interest? How much will Robert be left with after monthly payments? Make a list of the key points and make a decision on what Robert should do and why.
Finance, Leave it or Save it? - Dave
Dave is looking at upgrading his current phone which has started being slow recently. He currently pays £25 per month which doesn't cover all of his usage. He needs something with 1,000 texts and 100 minutes. At the moment he pays an additional £10 per month on extra data to take him to 2GB which he doesn't use. He is looking for an iphone as he has used them before.
Dave has had his bills go up recently and is looking for a phone to best fit his needs but doesn't know whether to save, finance one or not get one. He can spend £40 per month on his phone or savings according to his budget. Pick which one you would choose and why.
Daves options
When making a decision please think about: How long will it take to save for an Iphone? Is there any other phone that meets his needs? Does he need 2gb of data? Make a list of key points and you recommendation to Dave
Finance, Leave it or Save it? - Clare
Clare has been renting and saving for the past few years and is looking at potentially buying a house. You will have to look at the information Clare gives us and give Clare your opinion on what she should do in your thoughts.
Clare is currently paying £1100 per month in rent and is looking to buy the property, she is £50k off buying the property. If she buys she will only have the utilities to pay each month as well as insurance. Clare has been offered a mortage for the full £50k. The deposit would require her to use all of her savings and the money would be given at an interest rate of 10% over 55 months.
When making a decision please think about: How much will she be charged for the Mortgage How long will it take to save for the rest of the money? Will the house increase in value? If Clare gets a mortgage the house will be hers sooner, is there a benefit to this? Make a list of key points and you recommendation to Clare

Planning Ahead
Introduction
Throughout this module we will be looking at how to plan ahead when it comes to meals
Why planning ahead and budgeting meals is beneficial and how we can do this.
Planning ahead doesn't always mean buying when something is cheap or on offer, this can often lead you to waste the items as it is an impulse buy or could cause you to spend more to accomodate the item you've bought.
Planning Ahead
Save money by saving food - Some Facts
Ready meals are more expensive in most cases than making food fresh (plus sometimes you get more)
Cooking easy meals in bulk and freezing can be more cost effective
Planning meals before going shopping can help cut down on waste and impulse buys on offers.

Planning Ahead

Food labels and offers
When you do shopping after making a plan of what you'll need, you should be trying to get the longest date possible to enable you to have the most amount of time to use it. It is important we understand the difference to be able to utilise what we buy in the most effective way.
Click on the buttons below to understand the difference between 'use by' and 'best before'
Best Before
USE BY
Eggs are an eggception to the this rule they will show a 'best before' however these should not be used as they may contain dnagerous bacteria. Guidance mentions that as long as the eggs are cooked thoroughly until both yolk and whites are solid then they may be eaten a day or two after.

Lets explore the meetings of the food labels below.

Food Offers
Special offers are great, but don't buy food just because it's on offer – you might not use it. Look out for 3 for 2, money off or % extra deals. Check that you can store these for when you need them. Keep your eyes peeled for offers late in the day, often supermarkets reduce their prices.
Move on to the next page to start planning shopping using offers and comparison sites.

Logging In
For using your Internet Banking you will need to have registered previously, if you have not already. Guides on how to register for online banking can be found on your bank / building society website. Tips: If you have entered your password incorrectly more than 3 times, it will be best to reset this as some banks can lock you out until you do this. (They don't always tell you they've locked you out) If you know you may forget a password you may be able to set up a reminder or make a note of a phrase or word that may remind you of this. Keep your mobile number up to date with the bank to be able to receive texts/calls.
When logging into Online Banking it is important to do so from somewhere safe and secure, what we mean by this is normally a protected wifi network with a password. Normally home is the best place.
