Word order in questions
Introductory phrases
If you begin a question like this, you follow the same order as in reported questions. How can I apply for the Erasmus+ programme? Could you tell me how I can apply for the Erasmus+ programme?
When we ask for information politely, we often use introductory phrases like: Do you know...? I wonder... I don't suppose you know
Polite questions
Beginning the interaction: "Hey", "Excuse me", "Sorry"
Past and continuous forms: To introduce a question or as a part of the question
Contextualize your topic
Modal verbs: "Can", "Could" "Would", "May"
Examples:
1 - Excuse me, how much is this?2 - Could you tell me the time? 3 - You wouldn't mind bringing me another napkin, would you? 4 - Sorry, has my drink been made yet? 5 - I was wondering if you could turn the music down a little?
Inverted questions: Negative question + Positive question tag
The passive: Use the passive to avoid giving blame in a situation
