Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges

  • Ruby Bridges was 6 when she became the first African American kid to attend William Frantz Elementary School, an all white pubic school.
  • She walked into school surrounded by Federal Marshals protecting her from a mob of protesters screaming racial slurs, threats, and insults.
  • On her way to school, Ruby Bridges stopped and prayed on her way to school. Not for her but for the protesters, she prayed that God would forgive them for their actions.
  • When parents got the news that a black girl was attending the school so many parents pulled their kids from that school, she was the only one in class

"Racism is a grown-up disease, and we should stop using our kids to spread it."-Ruby Bridges

"Dont follow the path. Go where there is no path and begin the trail..." - Ruby Bridges
