High Five!

a) To learn about multiplication and the first 5 tables in a fun and interactive way. More often than not third graders have a hard time focusing on what they're learning and need to have some sort of fun coupled with their learning experience. b) It is important for third graders to know about the multiplication table so they will be able to use in when they're older in harder classes. c) First I'd talk about what muplication is and then why we use them and then how to use them. I'll try to sneak in a poll of some sort that the students can do to get a good feel of their excitement levels to be learning such a new topic. d) I would have the students in groups from 1-5 as we're only learning up until 5 for today and allow them to try and memorize their respective numbers and then recite it one by one in their groups, each person will be given the opportunity to recite and their group members job is to tell them what they missed at the end.

In Maths, the basic explanation of multiplication is adding a number, with another number, repeatedly.

When and how do you use Multiplication?

You can use multiplication anywhere and everywhere!

Before anything, remember that multiplication is like addition but a little more advanced!1. Think of it as a multiplication problem as an addition problem! Basically 2 x 3 is the same as 2+2+2 and 5 x 2 is the same as 5 +5! (Note how there's 3 twos and 2 fives)2. Then lets start with multiplying by 0s! Remember that any number multiplied by 0 is always ZERO. 3. Try making a simple table! One side has the main number (1-5 in our lesson) while the other side has the numbers 1-10.

2x3=6

The Table of 1

Numba One!

The table for the number one is a rather simple one. It's the easiest one to remember! Any number you multiply by one you get that number and you're done!

The Table of 2

The Terrible Twos

Whenever you multiply by two you always get an even number!

The Table of 3

The Threes and the Bees Knees

Just think a 3’s problem as “the double plus one more group.”

The Table of 4

May the Fours be with you

Think of the fours table as doubles doubles! For example, when you have an problem, like 4×5, you can double the 5 to make 10, and then double the 10 to make 20!

The Table of 5

HIgh five!

One trick to the high fives is to count by five, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, etc and boom you basically memorized the whole table!

Thanks for the save super genius third grader! We appreciate it!
