The
CRochet hook
start
The crochet hook was invented by Mademoiselle Riego de la Branchardiere, a daughter of a french father and Irish mother. The lady is now known as the mother of crochet!
Genially
Where crochet came from
Crochet comes from the french word croc/croche meaning hook or the Norse word krokr the word crochet now however can be found all the way back to the 15-17th century. Sadly like knitting historians don't know who was the person who first invented crochet or the exact place but we do know the first documented patterns...
Some of these first patterns were created in 1842 and they were very delicate and mainly consisted of lacy and patchy artworks. Fun Fact: some of these patterns can be found on ralvery (a large crochet pattern website) today. The only reason why we have this information is because she created a book of crochet and knitting in 1841.
