DOGS IN WAR
Guard dogs
Guard dogs were used in WW1 to sit beside a soldier who is on guard and warn him of any upcoming dangers. These dogs, also known as Sentry dogs, went through special training to smell when danger was coming, and make one, loud bark to warn their soldier of the upcoming risks.
Casualty dogs
Casualty dogs were used in war to help injured or dying soldiers. These medic dogs would be trained ecsessively to seek out an injured soldier in war. They would carry medical supplies, so once they found the soldiers, the soldiers could treat on themselves. They would also keep the soldiers company. Casualty dogs saved thousands of lives.
Dogs dealing with pests
In WW1 there was a lot of diseases and illnesses that came from pests in the trenches. Dogs in WW1 would be trained to sniff out and hunt these pests down and kill them. They let the dogs deal with the pests so the soldiers could focus on the major task at hand, the war.
