Cirkular Agro
We make regenerative agriculture work at a family farming level.
Our purpose:
We exist to accelerate the transition of millions of farming families to regenerative agriculture.
We’re a spin-off from Biodiversal, a company that works as a field partner of specialty coffee companies to help small-holder farmers transition to regenerative agriculture.
Cirkular emerges from a mission-driven family business ecosystem.
Out of our own pain points dealing with financial & digital services providers, we decided to develop internal capabilities through this new venture.
Coffee Roasting & Retail
International curators & traders
Sustainable Coffee Farming Projects
Regenerative agriculture specialized services for small scale farming
At Cirkular Agro, we’re finding more impactful ways to make capital and knowledge flow among rural family-led farms, by developing data-driven capabilities.
We accelerate the transition to Regenerative Agriculture, by:
Formulating productive projects inspired on nature-based solutions.
Boosting family farming clusters with innovative finance & insurance approaches
Expanding interconnectedness based on mission-aligned digital architectures
WHY FINANCE REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE?
What type projects do we support?
Formulating productive projects inspired on nature-based solutions.
We started in Colombia -the 2nd most biodiverse country in the world- with a red bean project financing coffee farmers in Tolima
Biodiversal operated as Cirkular's field partner and provided technical assitance.
Organic
Chemical
Fertilization mix:
A group of 20 coffee farmers from Chaparral, Tolima engaged through a contract-based agriculture model, with equitable conditions of risk and return, in which they received all inputs and technical assistance; and retained 50% of total production.
$ total income per farmer 233 USD
Ground Up Investment joined the project with an impact-first investment approach
$ TIR -17%
$ Investing 12.348 USD in 23 families
Through this first project, Cirkular has been able to build up the first set of digital capabilities that will make the difference for investment and management decisions:
A Project Data Management Playbook for Associated Crops
The Territory Profiling System
o Cirkular’s Farmers Recognition Framework
With a proprietary Territory profiling system Cirkular is now well positioned to better understand the context of people, farms & economic circuits in which capital will be allocated.
Insights gained throughout this Territory Profiling System, enabled us to allocate 12.060.32 USD in 5 production clusters.
Based on this project, Cirkular developed a replicable Project Data Management Playbook for Associated Crops that enables coordinated data-driven decision making.
The PDMP provides us with material information on each stage of the project life-cycle, and is enabling data-literacy, timely field action, and leveraging reporting and traceability capabilities.
The Family Recognition Framework provides communities with a local benchmark, but most importantly, provides us all with new insights on which are the conditions & behaviors that are leading the local communities to better results.
In 2023, Cirkular will keep improving digital capabilities, expanding territorial scope and integrating services to offer better risk management for all:
Develop
Integrate
Loop in
Iterate
New field partners in Panama, Costa Rica and El Salvador.
New Project Data Management Playbooks for:
Parametric insurance to associated crop projects.
With the Territory Profiling System in Tolima, Cundinamarca and Huila; and with the Red bean Project Playbook.
Biochar production Carbon Sequestration Projects Coffee + biofertilizers Project Animal farm project
Our goal for 2022-2026 is to allocate $7.5 M USD in Colombia, to help 7.000 families-led coffee farmers transition to regenerative agriculture practices on a project by project basis.
In 2022 we managed $31.000 USD Sister companies have committed to invest $250.000 - 500.000USD during 2023 aprox. We’re calling partners to co-invest money in:
Bean Guarzo variety
Exploration of other bean varieties to expand our presence in the country
Plantain's flour
Carbon sequestration projects
Coffee-biofertilizers projects
Animal farm projects
Short-cycle plant species
