Legislative Branch

  • Ability to make laws
  • Can declare war
  • Holds the power to approve treaties and presidential appointments
  • Oversees tax dollars
  • Conducts oversight and investigations within the government.

  • Holds the power to sign or veto laws
  • Can appoint judges
  • Proposes policies
  • Represents the U.S. in negotiating with other countries

Judicial Branch

  • Examines laws
  • Holds the power to overturn rulings from lower courts
  • Makes decisions that Legislative and Executive Branches must then carry out
