The differences between the United kingdom and Great Britain are that:

Scotland

  • United kingdom includes Great Britain and Northern Ireland
  • Great Britain includes Scotland, England and Wales

SCOTLAND

The Scotland is located north of the UK and its capital is Edinburgh

The flag is formed by a blue background and a white cross

The symbol of Scotland is the Thistle (il cardo) a purple flower symbolizing the nobilty of character and birth

WALES

The Wales is located soth-west of the UK and its capital is Cardiff

The flag is formed by a green and white background with a red dragon in the center

The symbols of wales are two:

  • The Leek associated with Saint David patron of the coutry
  • The Daffodil became popular for its beauty and its smell

ENGLAND

The England is the biggest country on the British Island, it's located south of the UK and its capital is London

The flag is formed by a white background and a red cross

The symbols are the rose and the lions:

  • The rose symbolizing love, sensitivity, innocence and charm
  • The three felines are the symbol of the English football federation, the FA.

NORTHERN IRELAND

The Norther Irland is located west of the UK and its capital is Belfast

The flag is formed by a white background and a red cross

The symbol is the Sharmrock which is connected to Saint Patrick who use it to indicate the trinity

MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN NORTHERN IRELAND AND THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND ARE:

  • Ireland is a member of the European Union (EU), while Northern Ireland is no longer part of the EU because it went out with the UK (called Brexit)
  • Have two different capitals: the capital of Northern Ireland is Belfast, while the capital of Ireland is Dublin.
  • The flags of Ireland and Northern Ireland are very different. The flag of the Republic of Ireland is the Tricolour of green, white and orange. The official Northern Ireland flag is the Union Jack of Great Britain.
  • Another difference is the language: the language of Northern Ireland is English, while the Republic of Ireland have two languages English and Gaeilge (Irish).
  • In the Republic of Ireland the euro is used while in Northern Ireland the pound is used.
  • Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom with England, Scotland and Wales and is a parliamentary constitutional monarchy while the Republic of Ireland has a parliamentary republic.

UNION JACK

The Union Jack or the Union Flag is the name of the English flags and represents the unity and at the same time the diversity of the nations of Great Britain, it was also created to unite Great Britain and Ireland.
