Why should i knoW special ed law?
It is important to stay current with your child's education because you want them to have the highest quality education possible. These laws ensure that parents are aware of their rights and can advocate for the correct resources for their child. They also keep educators and the state responsible for applying the services available and providing a free appropriate public education.
HOW DOES THIS BENEFIT ME AND MY CHILD?
By understanding the laws of Special Education a gaurdian can better adovcate for the services their child may require. Specfically with the Assistive Technology Act, teachers, parents, and caregivers may recieve training to use these devices to better teach their clients. For children or students, this law allows them to have access to assitive technology that helps them to communicate.
The Assistive Technology Act was originally instated in 1998 and was reinstated in 2004 with revamped regulations. It's main purpose was to provide individuals with disabilities with the technical resources that benefit their lives. This includes demonstrations of products, discounts on items, low cost loans, training, and information on the assistive devices.

For individuals who live in Pennsylvania, the Office of Vocational and Rehabilitation Services (OVR) can provide evaluations, assistance in the selection, acquisition, or use of assistive technology devices, including training.
