Why do I need to know Special Ed Law?

It is important to stay current with your child's education because you want them to have the highest quality education possible. These laws ensure that parents are aware of their rights and can advocate for the correct resources for their child. They also keep educators and the state responsible for applying the services available and providing a free appropriate public education.

idea 2004....what is it?

- Procedural Safegaurds are in place to protect you as the parent. You are able to request your childs educational records, any data taken on your child, and to request an evaluation.- IDEA ensures that a Free Appropriate Education can be offered to your child where the services are fitted to their needs.

- IDEA of 2004 requires every public school to provide an IEP (Individualized Education Program) to any student that qualified for services. The IEP must be tailored to the specific educational needs of the student. It also must be applied within the least restrictive environment.
