What is a noun?

A noun is a word that names a person, place, animal, or thing.

person- baby

idea- frienship

thing- flower

place- home

animal- puppy

Singular versus Plural

Singular: refers to one thing.

a baby

a home

a flower

a puppy

Plural: refers to two or more things.

Possessive Nouns

A possessive noun shows ownership or possession.

  • Can be singular or plural.

singular- the girl's icecream plural- the children's recess

Singular Possessive Nouns

Add an apostrophe (‘) + s to most singular nouns AND to plural nouns that DO NOT end in s.

Examples: kitten’s toy (the toy belongs to one kitten) women’s dresses (dresses of more than one woman)

write the possesive form of the noun
