Communication
Communication is at the forefront of every social interaction made by humans. Whether using verbal (spoken) communication to talk with a close friend or nonverbal (non-spoken), the methods by which humans communicate can be interpreted in different ways by different cultures. A better understanding of how different cultures partake in social interactions can be achieved through recognizing and appreciating the concept of intercultural communication.

Different Forms Of Communication
Different cultures communicate in different ways; for instance, one culture may have informal views of communication while others place value on introductions or rituals before a conversation. To not offend the customs of specific international or ethnic cultures, it is important to recognize how certain ideas, beliefs, values, and views within cultures outside of one's own can influence social interaction.

Examples On How to Show Respect In Different Cultures
In Nigerian culture, you don’t address your elders by their first name. You call them Aunt or Uncle — whether you’re related or not.
In China, you present and receive things with both hands. This is considered polite in Chinese culture.
In Japan, Silence is a natural and expected form of non-verbal communication.
