What are the Pyramids of Giza?

Learn about pyramids.

  • The Pyramids of Giza were constructed from 2575 to 2465 BC on the western bank of the River Nile.
  • They were built to contain the tombs of the pharaohs.
  • Each pyramid is more than 140 metres high and contains as many as 2.3 million stone blocks.
  • To build the pyramids, each stone block had to be cut, transported and assembled.
  • In total, the pyramids took over 20 years to construct.
