Intro
Before we start diving into how to build in MEF ensure you have access to MEF and that you can log in. If you are unable to log in, please reach out either Rachael, Trisha or Helen for assistance.

The following slides contain a ‘walk-through’ of building a CLA shell and assessment activity, as well as how to link these together
Remember, you can always ask Rachael, Trisha or Helen if you get stuck! Just send a message via Slack or email!

Accessing MEF
- Open MEF in a new browser window
- For training/practice use the ANZ Sandbox (arrow) and label your items with your name
Important: the ANZ Sandbox is shared training space, so please make sure you do not delete any items!
- Speak with Rachael, Trisha or Helen first if you think a CLA should be deleted from the Sandbox.

Create the shell
- Once the building space is opened, click the blue ‘ADD’ button in the top left corner (see yellow arrow)
- A drop-down menu allows you to choose the overall type of CLA (single narrative, single assessment, single-split, multi-page)
- Once created, hover over the new CLA box, 3 dots will appear. Click on these and choose ‘edit info’ to name your CLA.
- Click the blue SAVE button in the upper right corner of the building space to ensure you CLA shell has been saved (see purple arrow)

Name and save
- Once the CLA shell is created, hover over the new CLA box, 3 dots will appear.
- Click on these dots and choose ‘edit info’ to name your CLA.
- Name your CLA and click save
- Make sure your CLA shell has been saved to the project! To do this, Click the blue SAVE button in the upper right corner of the building space
Click SAVE regulary! Or changes will be lost!

Adding content
- Menu on right-hand side of building space contains the different type of ‘insert content’ options
- Use this menu to add your content on a narrative page (click the appropriate button to add)

The assessment activity
- Make sure your CLA shell has a ‘full page assessment’ page included
- This is already included in the split-page CLA page option
- Access the ‘Assessments’ creation side of MEF by clicking on the blue button in the upper right-hand corner
Tip: open the Assessments area in a new tab, this will make it easier when you need to switch back and forth with the CLA/Narrative screen

Create the assessment activity
- Once the ‘Assessment Activities’ list appears you can create a new activity by clicking the orange ‘NEW’ button in the upper right-hand corner
Important: The ANZ Sandbox is a shared training space, so please make sure that you do not delete any assessment activities or questions!

Naming the assessment activity
- Enter the Activity title; remember to include your name here (Sandbox only)
- Next, choose how the questions (1 per page, or all together)
- Now you can start adding questions using blue ‘plus’ button (bottom arrow).
- The ‘Preview Activity’ button in the top right-hand corner (top arrow) allows you to view how the question will appear (does not have all MindTap formatting)

Choosing the question format
- Make sure your CLA shell has a ‘full page assessment’ page included
- This is already included in the split-page CLA page option
- Access the ‘Assessments’ creation side of MEF by clicking on the blue button in the upper right-hand corner
- For a ‘fill the blanks’ question, use the option called ‘Fill in the blank’
The ‘CLOZE’ option is used in a specific type of language test, speak with Rachael first.

Linking Assessment and CLA
- Both the CLA shell and Assessment activity need to be created first (editing can still happen afterward)
- On a full-page assessment page, hover over the blue box until a smaller solid blue box appears ‘Add your assessment activity’
Getting this box to appear can be tricky! Patience is needed!
- Click on the ‘Add your assessment activity’ button to open the search box
