Tessa Krailing (1935–2003) was a British author, best known for her children's books. Born in Kent, England, she dedicated herself to writing and education, having also worked for the BBC channel (British Broadcasting Corporation). Her contribution to children's literature is recognized and many of her books are still available for reading.

Brief summary of the story
This book tells the story of a young girl named Beauty, whose father was a merchant. One day he promised to bring presents for his daughters. Beauty's older sisters asked for expensive presents, but Beauty asked for a rose. Unfortunately, he was unable to give the gifts they asked for. On the way back he got lost and looked for shelter. He was very welcome in an unknown palace. In that place he found a rose garden and took one for Beauty. At that moment a beast appeared furious at what he did. The merchant explained the reason and the beast let him take the rose to his daughter in exchange for her coming to live with him, and so it was. After some time, Beauty asked the Beast to go see her father, who was ill. When she returned, the Beast was very weak, lying on the ground. They confessed their love for each other and a light appeared. Beauty looked at the ground and there was a beautiful young man lying down. They married and lived happily ever after.

Beauty
Beauty is a beautiful young woman, with long golden hair and eyes that change colour like the sky (blue when she is happy and grey when she is sad). She is also kind, courageous, intelligent and has a great capacity for love.
Beast
The Beast has a monstrous appearance, with fur-covered skin, sharp claws, intimidating teeth and brown eyes. The Beast is tormented because of his curse, so (at the beginning of the book) he is arrogant and bitter. But as the story progresses, the Beast reveals that he is sensitive and kind.
Favourite characters and reasons
My favorite character is Beauty because she is a person with a big heart who cares about others and she is kind to everyone. I appreciate her values.

Weakly the beast opened his eyes and looked at her. "I thought you were gone for ever... and that I must be lonely again, as I was before you came. I couldn't bear it. I missed you so much." "And I missed you!" she cried. Forgive me, I've been so foolish. I realise now it doesn't matter what you look like. I love you for your kind heart and your brown eyes...

Personal comment on the book
I enjoyed reading this book because it talks about acceptance and true love, with characters who developed emotionally. For example, Beauty is first revolted against her father but after she accepts and resigns. And it teaches a moral lesson about life, revealing that kindness and generosity always lead to triumph.
