HOW TO USE THEM AND RULES TO FORM ADVERBS

The adverbs of manner are words that modify verbs, adjectives or other adverbs. They tell us how an action is developed.

She sings very badly.

How to form them?

Adverbs of manner are usually formed by adjectives adding -ly.

  • quick = quickly
  • polite=politely
  • bad = badly
  • dangerous=dangerously
  • correct = correctly
  • beautiful=beautifully

BUT SOMETIMES THERE ARE CHANGES IN SPELLING:

easy = easily angry = angrily

The adjectives ending in "y", change the "y" by "i" and add -ly.

tragic = tragically magic = magically

The adjectives ending in -ic, add -ally

horrible = horribly terrible = terribly

The adjectives ending in -le, change the "e" by "y".

beautiful = beautifully careful = carefully

The adjectives ending in "l", add -ly.

But, if the verb is accompany with a direct object, the adverb of manner goes after it. He drinks his coffee quickly. / He drinks quickly his coffe. (incorrect) She opened the door fast. / She opened fastly the door. (incorrect)
