THE PRESENT PASSIVE VOICE

In this unit, we are going to see how to transform an ACTIVE sentence IN THE PRESENT SIMPLE, into a PASSIVE sentence

Have a look at this text:

PEOPLE

PEOPLE

is the SUBJECT , the element that MAKES the action.

BUY

is the MAIN VERB of the sentence.

NEWSPAPERS

is the DIRECT OBJECT of the sentence, the "RECEIVER" of the action.

STEPS

STEP 1: Move the DIRECT OBJECT TO THE BEGINNING OF THE SENTENCE

BUY

PEOPLE

NEWSPAPERS

STEP 2: Add the verb TO BE (AM, IS, ARE) next. In this case, the pronoun equivalent to "Newspapers" is "They", so we will use the verb ARE. Then, use the PAST PARTICIPLE FORM or THE 3RD COLUMN OF THE MAIN VERB (BUY-BOUGHT)

STEP 3: Finally, add the pronoun BY and the SUBJECT. This is called the AGENT.
