Reflection

My friend and I have been working on a CAS project that involves making bracelets for the last three weeks. This has been a really fulfilling experience because it has allowed us to reflect on our own areas of strength and improvement, show that we are dedicated to learning new abilities, and realize the advantages of teamwork. As we experimented with various materials and techniques, such as beading, and wire wrapping, we encountered a challenging learning curve. I was able to pinpoint my areas of strength and weakness in terms of creative design and attention to detail, as well as where I needed to improve my dexterity with specific bracelet-making techniques. Together, my friend and I were able to strengthen these areas that needed improvement and learn from one another. Our three-week bracelet-making experience demanded a substantial time and effort commitment from us. We scheduled regular meetings so that we could gather supplies, investigate methods, and carefully make each bracelet. We persisted despite disappointments and obstacles, coming up with innovative solutions and encouraging one another along the way. We were inspired to stay on task and create bracelets of the highest caliber by our common sense of purpose and accountability.

My friend and I working together made this CAS experience a success. We had the opportunity to discuss ideas, offer criticism, and pick up tips from one another's methods. We were able to accomplish our goals more quickly and joyfully because of our teamwork and our understanding of the benefits of collaboration. Making bracelets with a buddy for this CAS project has been a really fulfilling experience overall. While supporting a deserving cause, it has enabled us to hone our practical skills, cultivate our creativity, and fortify our ability to work together. I am appreciative of this chance to develop both myself and collaboratively.

Participating in the Christmas market bracelet-making and selling activity has been a truly meaningful and rewarding CAS experience for. This activity has allowed me to develop a range of skills and engage with important global issues, all while contributing to a worthy cause. One of the most valuable aspects of this experience was the opportunity to work collaboratively with my peers. Designing, creating, and organizing the sale of the bracelets required effective communication, task division, and reliance on each other's strengths. I found great satisfaction in seeing our collective efforts come together to produce high-quality products and a well-presented market stall. Moreover, the fact that the proceeds from our bracelet sales were donated to an association supporting children in need has allowed me to engage with a global issue of significance. Knowing that our small-scale fundraising efforts could have a positive impact on the lives of those less fortunate has been incredibly humbling and has motivated me to continue seeking out opportunities to make a difference in my local and global community.

In addition, this CAS assignment has given me the opportunity to discuss a very important worldwide subject. I have been able to help a cause that addresses an important global health crisis by contributing the bracelet sale revenues to the "Piel de Mariposa" association. This organization supports children with epidermolysis bullosa, a rare and devastating skin illness. This experience has deepened my feeling of social duty and inspired me to have a positive impact on the world, in addition to expanding my understanding of the difficulties faced by others who live with this condition. Lastly, I considered the ethical ramifications of my decisions and behavior throughout the bracelet sale. I made sure that the product was fairly priced, that it was sourced ethically, and that the gift to the "Piel de Mariposa" association was handled responsibly and transparently. This increased knowledge of ethical issues has affected how I approach this CAS exercise as well as how I make decisions in general and has motivated me to use these ideas in other spheres of my life. All things considered, running the bracelet sale for the "Piel de Mariposa" association has been a life-changing CAS experience that has helped me to build critical abilities, become involved with a worldwide issue, and strengthen my sense of ethical duty. I am appreciative that I had the chance to participate in this endeavor, and I have no doubt that the knowledge I have gained will continue to influence both my academic and personal development.

Throughout the process, we also had to carefully consider the ethical implications of our choices and actions. From the materials we used to the pricing of the bracelets and the allocation of the funds raised, we strived to ensure that our efforts were truly beneficial and aligned with our values. This experience has helped me develop a greater awareness of the ethical considerations that should guide our decisions and actions as global citizens. Overall, the Christmas market bracelet-making and selling activity has been a valuable CAS experience that has allowed me to demonstrate a range of learning outcomes, from working collaboratively to engaging with issues of global significance and recognizing the ethics of our choices.

SUMMATIVE REFLECTIVE

One of the most significant and influential aspects of my high school career has been the CAS program. I've taken advantage of CAS as an Inquirer to research global concerns, pursue new interests, and get a better grasp of both the world and myself. My CAS projects have forced me to try new things, get out of my comfort zone, and have significant interactions with the local and international communities.

Being principled is one of the main qualities that the CAS program has really helped me to develop. My involvement in numerous CAS events, like helping at a nearby animal shelter and planning beach clean-ups, has challenged me to act honorably, make moral choices, and accept accountability for my deeds. I now have to make sure that my involvement in CAS is motivated by a sincere desire to make a positive difference rather than selfish interests or conceit. I have to carefully weigh the possible effects and implications of my decisions.

Additionally, having an open mind has been essential to my CAS journey. I've learnt to approach new situations with curiosity, empathy, and a willingness to learn, whether it was trying out a new sport like rock climbing, working with peers from varied backgrounds on a group project, or immersing myself in a foreign culture. My understanding of the world has expanded and I have been able to confront my own preconceptions and acquire insightful new insights thanks to my open-mindedness.

A key component of navigating the CAS program has been keeping a sense of balance. The abundance of CAS options and activities could easily overwhelm me, which would be detrimental to both my emotional and academic well-being. But I've discovered that it's important to properly manage my time and energy so that I can prioritize my other obligations and maintain my physical and mental well-being in addition to my CAS obligations. I've gained useful organizing and self-management skills from this that I can use long after I graduate from high school.

I have found the Caring trait to be very significant in light of my engagement with CAS. I've been able to directly improve people's lives in my town and beyond by doing things like planning a fundraiser for a children's charity and volunteering at a nearby food bank. These encounters have deepened my understanding and compassion, and they have inspired me to use my abilities and resources to improve the lives of people who are less fortunate.

The CAS curriculum has made me to solve problems critically and creatively as a Thinker. I've done a lot of CAS projects that have forced me to recognize real-world problems, examine their underlying causes, and come up with creative solutions. My analytical abilities have improved as a result of this approach, which has also inspired me to think creatively and nuancedly about the complexity of the issues our planet faces. Another essential component of my CAS journey has been the Communicator characteristic. Effective communication has been crucial in all of my interactions, whether I'm working with a team, presenting the findings of a CAS project, or participating in cross-cultural engagement. I've learned to actively listen to others, articulate my thoughts convincingly, and modify my communication style to fit various situations.

Being a risk-taker has also been necessary for me to participate in CAS activities. I've had to step outside of my comfort zone and welcome the uncertainty that comes with new experiences, whether it's attempting a new sport or artistic medium, organizing a collaborative project, or going to a foreign country. Even while it hasn't always been easy, doing this has ultimately given me more resilience, self-assurance, and a desire to accept the unknown. My involvement in CAS has also increased my knowledge. I've learned a great deal of fresh information and perspectives through the design, research, and execution of my many CAS projects. Whether it's studying about the history and culture of a particular area, sustainable farming methods, or the complexities of event organizing, every CAS activity has expanded my perspectives and given me useful knowledge that I can use in other aspects of my life.

Lastly, over my CAS journey, the Reflective feature has been crucial. I've taken the time to carefully analyze what I've learned, how I've changed, and what I may do differently going forward after every task or endeavor. I've been able to derive more meaning from my CAS experiences, pinpoint areas in need of development, and establish worthwhile objectives for ongoing personal growth thanks to this reflective approach. All things considered, the CAS program has changed my high school experience. I've gained a better awareness of myself and the world around me, as well as a stronger sense of commitment to changing things for the better through the wide range of activities and projects I've worked on. The qualities I've developed—Inquirer, Principled, Open-minded, Caring, Thinker, Communicator, Risk-taker, Knowledgeable, and Reflective—have enhanced my CAS experiences and will be beneficial to me going forward in both my academic and personal endeavors.

CAS PROJECT (Initial group reflection )

When we first made our group, we wanted to work on helping a local orphanage. However, after a discussion with our CAS coordinator, we realised that this could be hard for the children and our group. After some discussion, we decided to help out at an elders home in our town. Followingly, we contacted the elders’ home manager to coordinate our project. At first, we felt nervous and concerned about the outcome of the project due to our lack of experience with elders. When we first visited to talk with the manager, we told her about our concerns and she reassured us that our project would really benefit the residents. We met some of the residents, who were nice and talkative but others were more shy. Overall, our first visit was quite interesting and intriguing for the development of our project. The first real experience was a little bit different to what we expected, as the elders seemed bored with what we had planned to do. We organised book reading and we made bookmarks, to celebrate the international book day. However, we ended up dancing, which was not part of our plan but it was not that bad. After our first activity, we discussed our thoughts after this experience, and we all agreed that we should continue to organise more dynamic activities for our future experiences with them. Overall, after this first experience we felt more relaxed with our plans, and our original negative feelings disappeared. We even connected with some of the residents.

CAS PROJECT (Final group reflection )

After a series of different experiences, we finalised our CAS project. Throughout these past six months we have learnt a lot. Each experience was unique and improved our connections with the residents at the same time as we all had a good time. Our time with them was well spent and enjoyable for both them and us. We made unforgettable memories with them such as making cookies, playing bingo and inviting them to our school. Each of the elders was special, ones more than others, but generally we made good memories with all of them. We feel that we will definitely remember each of the experiences we did all together, as each of them had its highlights and good moments. Overall we all have definitely grown as individuals due to the decisions and actions we had to make in this project, as we also had to adapt each experience to the physical and psychical limitations some of the elders had. We have bettered our risk-taking skills, as well as our compassion, that has grown too, due to coming out of our comfort zone. We are glad that our project has brought some happiness to the lives of the elders, as it was something different to their daily lives. This project has changed us for the better as individuals in our community, and this will help us succeed in the future.

CAS PROJECT (Individual reflection )

During my time in high school, one of the most significant and life-changing CAS experiences I have had is volunteering at the nearby senior living facility. I've had the honor of getting to know the residents over the past 18 months, spending time with them, being their companion, helping with everyday chores, and working with planning different recreational activities. In addition to enabling me to positively influence the lives of others, this CAS initiative has had a significant impact on my own personal development. Having a better understanding of my own capabilities and places for improvement is one of the main CAS learning outcomes I've attained via this research. I was apprehensive at first about engaging with the senior citizens since I didn't know how to help and relate to them in the most effective way. However, as time has gone on, my approach has become more flexible, empathetic, and patient. My innate warmth, attentiveness, and problem-solving abilities have proven to be valuable traits for this kind of caring employment. Simultaneously, I've identified areas for improvement, like my initiative and organizing abilities. My ability to create meaningful goals for personal improvement and my comprehension of how to effectively use my abilities to make a good difference have both improved as a result of my increased self-awareness. My ability to work with others has also been shown by completing this CAS assignment. I've spent a lot of time working one-on-one with the residents at the care facility, but I've also had many of chances to assist the staff and other volunteers. In order to guarantee the successful execution of several activities and events, we have had to collaborate to set up timetables, assign duties, and address problems. Through this collaborative experience, I have improved my ability to communicate, my ability to make concessions, and my understanding of the various qualities that each member of a team brings to the table.

Through this collaborative experience, I have improved my ability to communicate, my ability to make concessions, and my understanding of the various qualities that each member of a team brings to the table. This CAS experience has also improved my ability to think through the moral ramifications of the things I do. Because I work with a vulnerable population, I have to be extremely careful, respectful, and honest in all of my interactions and responsibilities. Maintaining absolute confidentiality, navigating delicate circumstances, and always putting the residents' well-being and dignity first have all been challenges I've faced. This has reinforced my resolve to behave morally and socially responsibly and inspired me to reflect carefully on the ethical implications of my work. Most importantly, this CAS project has given me the opportunity to learn new abilities. I've gained a wide range of practical and interpersonal skills, from organizing interesting recreational events to effectively speaking with people of varied backgrounds and abilities to understanding how to assist residents with mobility and daily living duties. These newly acquired skills have improved my efficacy as a volunteer and given me useful tools that I may use for my upcoming personal, professional, and academic projects.

Ultimately, this CAS experience has proven that I am capable of initiating and organizing CAS events. This project has taken me eighteen months, so I've had to approach it intentionally and strategically. It's been my responsibility to plan ahead, use my time wisely, and make sure I regularly show up and keep my end of the bargain with the care facility. This degree of initiative and forethought has been incredibly fulfilling since it has enabled me to use my involvement in CAS to have a significant and long-lasting impact. All in all, my time spent volunteering at the neighborhood senior care facility has been a very valuable and influential CAS experience. Not only have I been able to positively impact people' lives with this endeavor, but I have also experienced tremendous personal development. The abilities, dispositions, and attitudes I've developed—better self-awareness, teamwork, moral judgment, learning new skills, and taking initiative—will be very helpful to me as I move through the possibilities and difficulties that lie ahead. I am really appreciative that I had the opportunity to take part in this CAS project, and I'm excited to build on these insightful lessons as I set off on new experiences in the years to come.
