In 1946, the Argentinean´s Navy imported 10 pairs of beavers from Canada and released them on the Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, at the southern tip of South America.

Descripcion:

The body is robust and has a short, thick neck. The head ends in a short snout, the eyes are small and the ears are short and rounded. The legs are short, for other hand they have 5 toes with a form of a circle with strong nails, finally in the bottom of their back they have a medium brown with a shovel form tail.

Their building works have an impact on ecosystems: they change the normal regime of rivers and decrease the velocity of currents too, extend the surface of the flooded floors and finally increase the retention of sediment and organic matter which in turn creates habitat for other exotic species.
