Surrealism

It is a twentieth-century literacy, philosophical and artistic movement that explored the workings of the mind, championing the irrational, the poetic and the revolutionary. Surrealism aimed to revolutionize human experience, rejecting a rational vision of life in favor of one that asserted the value of the unconscious and dreams. The word ‘surrealist’ (suggesting ‘beyond reality’) was coined by the French avant-garde poet Guillaume

Class : CM2

Apollinaire in a play written in 1903 and performed in 1917. Many surrealist artists used automatic drawing or writing to unlock ideas and images from their unconscious minds, and others sought to depict dream worlds or hidden psychological tensions.

Sewing - Design technology

CM1

Learning how to design a product from the idea to the evaluation of it. CM1 learned how to sew by using different techniques of stitching like running stitch or backstitch. Creating a design that will fit the purpose of the use and adapting their idea to what can be made and what did or did not work, to create a fantastic final product.

Pottery

CE2

Made of terracotta (fired clay), ancient Greek pots and cups, or “vases” as they are normally called, were fashioned into a variety of shapes and sizes and very often a vessel's form correlates with its intended function. The Greeks used pottery vessels primarily to store, transport, and drink such liquids as wine and water. Smaller pots were used as containers for perfumes, jewels holders etc.

CE2s also looked at Greek masks and designed their own inspired by Greek mythology. They used scratching- carving techniques to create their piece of Art, it helps to add textures and depth.

Sketching skills

CE1

We focused on improving our sketching skills and using different materials.

Pointillisme

CP

It is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of color are applied in patterns to form an image. Georges Seurat and Paul Signac developed the technique in 1886, branching from Impressionism. The term "Pointillism" was coined by art critics in the late 1880s to ridicule the works of these artists. The technique relies on the ability of the eye and mind of the viewer to blend the color spots into a fuller range of tones. It is related to Divisionism, a more technical variant of the method.

ABORIGINAL ART

CP

Aboriginal art is art made by indigenous people. It includes work made in many different ways including painting on leaves, wood carving, rock carving, sculpting etc. Australian Indigenous art is the oldest ongoing tradition of art in the world.

Les symboles

Abstract art - Alma Thomas

GS

Inspired by the natural world and fascinated by space-exploration, she imagined views from up in the air, allowing the landscape to spread over her canvas in small splashes and dots.

Abstract art - Wassily Kandinsky

GS

Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky was a Russian painter and art theorist. Kandinsky is generally credited as one of the pioneers of abstraction in western art. Gs have been exploring the mix of colors ( primary and secondary) and shapes. They also tried to visualize how we can feel when we see a painting. We tried like Kandinsky to listen to paintings. He believed that art was closely connected to music.
