English arrived in New Zealand in 1642. At the end of the 18th century the English governament was realy interested in the space New Zealand occupied, so they sent soliders and workers to invade the country. They also sent some people that they didn't want in their country like prisioners. At first the Maori population fought the British invasion, until peace agreements were signed in between 1840 and 1841 and the conflicts ended, but English governance prevailed.

Maori is a language that New Zealand natives speak. It was the official language in 1987 until half of the 19th century but the 2018 New Zealand census reported that about 186,000 people, or 4.0% of the New Zealand population, could hold a conversation in Māori about everyday things.
