There impact is still relavent today, not only is the compact important for the democratic system in the US these days, also the first harvest festival is what we today know under "Thanksgiving", which are national Holidays since 1863, when Abraham Lincoln established them and that is also the reason these pilgrims are called the "pilgrim fathers"

So now people think that America is a chance for them, to build up a new life and there are plenty reasons for that:

So from now on, some people from Europe came to America for a better life, these people are called the "pilgrims" and the best known voyage of them is with the Mayflower

But life wouldn't get better for the pilgrims in America, only 50 out of the 102 survived the first winter. One reason is the not reliable food source, but they got help

They started their journey at the 1st August and it lasted until the 19th November but not as planned in Virginia, so now there were different opinions in the group, so they worked and aggreed on a compact: The Mayflower compact
