Picnic Bench + Research & Development
Welding action - Sawdust rocket stove and pizza oven As a means to learn welding there are two prototypes to make. One is a special type of rocket stove that will use up our extensive supply of sawdust. The second is a portable pizza oven that can be brought to community events (and our final celebration)
Biogas digester prototype
Biodigesters are a means of taking organic waste and transforming it into methane. They function similarly to a stomach, digesting the matter and releasing gas. The lecture will go through existing biogas systems, their design, operation and maintenance and introduce our own prototype. Students will then assemble the prototype using what they have learned.
Earth Plaster prototype
Applying earth plaster requires a two-stage approach. First repairing and reinforcing a stone wall and then plastering. Students will point a section of wall with lime based mortar and stones and then plaster an adjacent wall using an earth plaster mix.
Wood Picnic Structure The municipality has requested a new picnic structure in the town of Apulia, where we previously had an intervention as the community was satisfied and have the need for another one.

Animal Shelters
We are partnering with an animal sanctuary in Matosinhos to enhance their facilities and for their chickens to have a decent space to live! We'll be applying sustainaible methods and solutions as in a house but in a smaller scale.
Águias Serpa Pinto is a local association and a cultural centre that offers to the community of Fão a place to gather and organises free events such as: bowling and cards tournaments, football matches, gymnastic and yoga sessions, etc.
The main users of this Centre are retired people, around 60’+, and young adults aroundd 15-25 years old. The main needs for this space the community has expressed are the following: Scoreboard for their bowling activities support, game table (chess, checkers), community benches for gathering and chatting, benches for watching the matches, flowerbeds with aromatics and edible plants, and gymnastic equipment.
To create the shelter, we'll have a co-design session and you'll be learning about wood processing (measuring, cutting, protection finishes) and installation on site.
