Click buttons to learn more

With the amount of data collected and being used in the SFRS, it's essential that everyone in the Service, from Firefighters to Board Members and Senior Leaders, are aware of and builds on their data literacy skills, and are able to access, trust. understand and interpret data when they need it.

Quick tip

From recording a Home Fire Safety Visit to looking up an incident, identifying patterns, and potentially predicting what could happen based on past data, all levels of the Service will come into contact with data at some point and have a role in making sure our data is fit for purpose. It's crucial that we all work together to ensure our data is of sufficient quality and can be used to drive the SFRS' decision making.

Four levels of analytics

Improving data literacy lets us recognise there are four levels of analytics:

2: Diagnostic

1: Descriptive

3: Predictive

4: Prescriptive

When we have different skills across the organisation, from Firefighters to Board Members and Senior Leaders, we can use these skills to:

  1. drive data and analytical strategy
  2. make smarter, data informed decisions
  3. correctly apply these four levels of analytics.
