Artist Statement

As a photographer, my favorite model by far is my cat, Jasper. I've had him for 10 years, and still try to find new and creative ways to capture him in his element. I've always considered my cat extremely handsome, and his tendency to purportedly pose for me inspires me to grab my camera as fast as possible. For this piece in particular, his pose prompted me to look for further inspiration in the fashion photography genre. I used Picsart to edit my photo to fit my (and his) vision. I noticed fashion photography tends to feature bold colors and contrast, so I increased the saturation and then overlayed the logo and other typical elements of a magazine cover. I have other photos of my cat modeling, but chose this one because of his fierce eye contact with the camera. Overall, creating this photo challenged me in post-production, improving my skills as an editor. I always look forward to sharing my creations with family and friends, because simple everyday sights with a creative twist can bring a genuine smile to anyone's face. I'm happy with the results, enjoyed every step of the way, and will continue to create stories with my cat as long as possible.
