ADVANTAGES

  1. Memorable, good for younger learners and lower levels
  2. Fun
  3. Good for kinesthetic learners. There is also virtual input (through the teacher's gestures) an auditory input (through the teacher's words)
  4. Can be used with large classes
  5. Doesn't require a lot of preparation

DISADVANTAGES

  1. Limited amount of words this can be used for
  2. Some learners may find it embarrassing
  3. Not always suitable for more advanced levels

Presentation Practice Production (PPP)

ADVANTAGES

  1. Language is presented in context
  2. Language is practiced in a safe environment where it's harder to make mistakes

DISADVANTAGES

  1. Learners might not be ready or need to learn the language practiced.
  2. It's very controlled and can be teacher-centered.
  3. The production stages don't necessarily involve real communication.

  1. Learners can learn language when needed, used experimentally
  2. Learners can engage in real communication, and get good opprtunities to communicate
  3. Learners can depend on their own resources
  4. The context for communication are fairly natural
  5. Language can arise from learner needs

DISADVANTAGES

  1. Doesn't suit all learning styles and some learners may prefer more structure and guidance
  2. The technique may call for considerable classroom management skills with some classes
  3. Teacher may feel comfortable in the role of observer, monitor and language diagnostician
