5 stages of cas

Students identify their interests, skills and talents to be used inconsidering opportunities for CAS experiences, as well as areas for personal growth and development. Students investigate what they want to do and determine the purpose for their CAS experience. In the case of service, students identify a need they want to address. Introduce this idea by having CAS students consider what the term “investigation” means to them.

1.Stage one: Investigation

We need to prepare. This can include clarifying roles and responsibilities, developing a plan of steps to be taken, identifying specified resources and timelines, and acquiring any skills as needed to engage successfully in the CAS experience.

2. Stage two: Preparation

Students implement their idea or plan. Students put their ideas for a CAS experience into action; they implement what they set out to do. Action is built upon prior to investigation and preparation

3. Stage three: Action

students describe what happened, express feelings, generate ideas and raise questions. Reflection can occur at any time during CAS to further understanding, to assist with revising plans, to learn from the experience and to make explicit connections between their growth, accomplishments and the learning outcomes for personal awareness. Reflection may lead to new action.

4. Stage four: Reflection

Students make explicit what and how they learned and what they have accomplished, for example, by sharing their CAS experience through their CAS portfolio or with others in an informal or formal manner. Through demonstration and communication, students solidify their understanding and evoke responses from others.

5. Stage five: Demostration

5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

2: Demonstrate that challenge have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

Marbella Crossfit Championship took place on october 8th in el Palacio de Congresos de Marbella. This was my first time doing a CAS activity so I was nervous as this whole concept was something new to me, but at the same time excited to undergo and experience new challenges. On the morning of the event I went to Palacio de Congresos and they made me go down to the beach as it was the start of the race. My job was waiting for the swimmers to leave their running stuff inside plastic boxes and then taking them to the end of the swim race so the competitors would have their things prepared to start the running race. Transporting the boxes full of stuff to the end of the swimming race was difficult and challenging as they were heavy and I needed to take them quickly but thankfully I had the help of other volunteers which made it a lot easier and successful as we worked collaboratively . Furthermore, I was told to go to the end of the running race and wait for the runners to arrive to tell them to go around the cones and cheer them on, which was really helpful for them as they were clear where to go and this extra support made them happy and motivated to keep going. After that, It was time to go back to the Palacio de Congresos for the last part of the competition in which I was in charge of distributing water to the participants, hence helping them recover from the hard exercises. Overall, I really enjoyed this experience, and it felt good volunteering in this type of event since it promoted health and activity. This experience meant a lot to me since after doing it, I realized the importance of an active life and it encouraged me to join the gym and start my new healthy life.

Global gift association organized a halloween door competition event where I was able to participate and help. The day before the event me and some of my classmates worked together to creatively plan and draw the design for the door so everything was clear and prepared for the next day. On october 27, we went to Global Gift association house and started decorating the door which was challenging as we were given the big entrance door which meant more time required and also the pressure to do a good design since being the front door but thankfully they give us materials and a lot of time to organize and perfectionate the decoration. Additionally, we were 5 people involved in the decoration of the door which was at times challenging since sometimes it was difficult for all of us to agree on something but also very beneficial as we were able to work collaboratively to create the best halloween door. In the end we did not win the competition but I was grateful to have the opportunity to participate and had a great experience where I learned a lot of new things. On the second day, we returned to the place, but dressed up in ghost costumes as it was Halloween celebration day. It was an event where children would go door to door for trick or treating and our task was to be behind the door and give the kids toys which was exciting but at the same time it was mentally and physically exhausting as there were over 400 children in attendance. Handing out the toys was quite challenging due to the large number of children, but as we were a group we collaboratively managed to distribute the toys to each child. This event was special because it focused on children with special needs, providing them with the opportunity to socialize and have interaction with other kids so they could experience a memorable Halloween experience. This experience made me realize the importance of such events to integrate children with disabilities into society, helping them develop essential social skills. Overall, this experience allowed me to develop my resilience and patience especially towards children, as well as improving my communications skills especially when engaging with children with disabilities as I managed to adapt my approach to different situations.

Investigation: Throughout my CAS journey, I have repeatedly sought opportunities to engage in experiences that combine more than one strand in order to maximize the impact of my experience. After hours of thinking and research my group and I came up with the idea of collecting toys around our school to sell them in the christmas market and donated the funds to an association. While researching for associations to donate the toys or money to, we stumbled across an organization which aims to improve the quality of life of individuals with the disease of “Epidermolysis bullosa” also known as “Butterfly skin”, that touched our hearts and inspired us to help. Preparation: Once we have the experience in mind, we propose the idea to our CAS coordinator in order to make it happen. I leverage my skills of creativity to create vibrant posters about the toy collection in order to raise awareness at school and encourage students to participate and donate the toys they no longer use. Also, I created eye catching boxes, placed strategically around school, making it easier for students to localize them. Moreover, communication was key for this experience since I had to go through the classes announcing the project to reach a wide audience. Additionally, we communicate to the secretary of the school to send emails to parents to further encourage students to bring in toys they no longer use and contribute to a good cause. Action: As students donated toys, our job was to organize them which took a lot of time. The fact 4 persons were involved, made the process significantly easier as we worked collaboratively to organize them and put the different price tags. To further amplify the impact of the experience, we decided to sell the donated toys and some books at our school’s Christmas market. This showcased my creativity since I worked to create an attractive display to attract buyers. We were able to generate a significant amount of money, totaling 616 euros. Therefore, the funds raised were given to the association “Piel de Mariposa” in order to contribute to their efforts and provide support to the families and individuals affected by this condition. Reflection: This experience was very meaningful and helpful in several ways. Going several times through the classes announcing the project helped me improve my communication skills and become more confident. Additionally, As the days passed, I demonstrated commitment and perseverance by continuously announcing, promoting and encouraging students to participate and collaborate as well as dedicating a lot of time organizing all the toys donated. Organizing all the toys in time helped me improve my organizational skills as I have to sort out the toys in different categories and put different price tags and as we were a group, we effectively worked together which made the task easier and quicker. Overall, this experience left me feeling happy, grateful and fulfilled since I was able to help and contribute to my local community while also expanding my knowledge on associations and broadening my perspective.

Kindergarten teachers at my school needed assistance with conducting an archeology activity for the children. With the intention of stepping out of my comfort zone, I volunteered to help out even though I did not have a lot of experience dealing with children. My role during this experience involved handing out materials such as magnifying glasses, maps, pens, as well as helping a group of children find hidden dinosaur bone pieces in the playground. Moreover, I was responsible for supervising and ensuring the children's safety throughout the entire activity. During the experience I felt happy and helpful as I was able to contribute and help the teachers, but a challenge I encountered was dealing with all children since I did not have a lot of experience. However, there were 4 more persons assisting in the activity, therefore we were able to collaboratively divide the children into smaller groups so each could focus on specific children, hence successfully managing the entire group. This experience enabled me to utilize my organizational and attentive skills and I organized the entire activity and ensured each child actively participated. It provided me an opportunity to improve my patience and communication skills as I was directly interacting with young children to make them follow specific instructions and rules.

Caritas christmas market took place in “palacio de congresos". It was a huge market organized by the Caritas association with a lot of different stands and I was in charge of helping in one of the biggest clothing stands. The first day of the market which was november 30, another volunteer and me were in charge of setting up the clothing store which meant planning the store layout by organizing the clothing by category, size, colors, hanging up everything and ensuring every clothing item had a price tag which was a fun activity but at the same time exhausting as we spent the whole afternoon organizing everything. Unfortunately I could not provide my service every day that the market lasted but I was able to go on the two busiest days which was the 3 and 4 of december. The first day I was very nervous because I was in charge of the whole stand but fortunately there was another volunteer helping, which made the day easier since we work as a team helping and looking after each other. I spent the entire day greeting customers, answering questions about store items, helping customers find specific clothing items, as well as processing customer payments and providing receipts. During the day I did not encounter any obstacles or challenges which actually left me feeling really happy and proud of myself. The next day was basically the same, although it was much busier so I found this day more demanding since the stand was full of customers asking many questions and on top of that I was a little tired from the previous day. However, I was able to overcome all these challenges thanks to the experience I had from the day before and the collaborative work I did with the other volunteers. Overall, volunteering at this charity event was a rewarding experience where I learned a lot about low income communities and where I felt really helpful, happy and grateful. In addition, I was also able to learn more about customer service and the difficulty of running a store and which I consider useful knowledge for my future.

I don't really enjoy reading books but going to a presentation of a new book made me change my mind. I went to the book presentation to help out organizing the event before people came, so I set up the chairs, brought the food to the main table and put the books on display so people could buy them. When people started coming to the event I was in charge of asking every single person if they wanted to drink a coffee or a tea and then go to a bar next door to buy them and bring them back to the place, which I found really challenging at first as I had to walk with too many drinks in a tray and I was scared of dropping them but luckily two of my friends helped me bringing them and giving them out. I'm a really shy person so this experience was really helpful to improve my communication skills since I had to greet everyone that came at the entrance and also ask politely every person what they wanted to drink. However at first I was a bit nervous when asking but then I was totally fine and confident. Later, they let me stay and listen to the presentation of the book which I enjoyed as I was able to understand the reasons the author wrote the book and what it meant to her which actually inspired me to write a book someday.

I quit gymnastics 3 years ago and volunteering in a dance competition made me remember the fellowship, nervousness and excitement of dancing. Previous days before the competition, during our school breaks, me and a friend would go help the dance team organize and prepare their choreography which was exciting but also challenging because every member had different opinions and feelings. Therefore I understood the situation and made wise choices. The dance competition took place in another school on December 13 where I was able to accompany and help our school dancing group. On this day I had a lot of tasks to do. I was in charge of helping the kids with their costumes and makeup, organizing the different groups to go on stage, supervising the kids who were waiting to go onto stage and also in charge of bringing water and food for everyone. Although all the children behaved well and were very kind, keeping order and everyone paying attention to me was a difficult and complicated task that I was able to overcome with a lot of effort and dedication. Furthermore, I really enjoyed this experience and I felt nostalgic and happy when seeing all the children having a great time dancing with their friends and even though our school's dance groups did not win, the children still enjoyed participating and understood that you cannot always win which made me feel cheerful and proud.

I am always looking out for hobbies that provide relaxation, allow me to learn something new and prevent me from spending the entire day in forn of screens. Searching on the internet I came across a craft video that showed how to create “Hama Beads” figures, which immediately intrigued me up to a point in which I decided to initiate this activity and make it my hobby. This craft involved purchasing beads and mold of various sizes and shapes. With this material, I began replicating figures from the internet, using different colors to create animals, flowers, fruits and more figures. After completing a design, I would have to place a piece of ove paper on top and use an iron to fuse the beads together. One of the challenges I encountered was the time it took me to complete each design, as I often got distracted by my phone or tv, slowing down my process. Nevertheless, I overcame this by making simpler and easier figures that still interested me. Moreover, I demonstrated commitment and perseverance throughout this experience as I created numerous different figures over the summer and continue to do so. Overall, I found this experience calming and exciting while also helping me improve my concentration and crafting skills

Creating my own clothes has always intrigued me and when I found out about crochet I was open to give it a try. However, starting to crochet was very challenging. The techniques and concepts involved in crochet were initially hard for me, which delayed my progress in designing my own clothes. Determined to overcome the difficulties, I decided to join an online course to learn how to crochet and through the tutorials I managed to master the basic concepts and finally start making my own clothes. I bought the wool and dedicated my free time to practice and start making a top. The entire process was really time consuming, demanded a lot of patience, perseverance and commitment, but at the same time it was a relaxing and calming experience. As time progressed, I was feeling a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction since I managed to overcome the challenges and crochet at a fast speed, and when I finally finished my first top I felt fulfilled. Inspired by this new hobby, I continued creating more crochet clothing pieces with different wool colors, patterns and designs, further expanding my skills. Overall, through this experience I was able to show commitment and perseverance for a new hobby and enabled me to engage in a relaxing and creative activity that improved my personal well being as well as making me discover a new passion.

I have always wanted to start a fitness routine, and this summer, I decided to join a gym and commit to go every morning, aiming to lead a more active lifestyle. My goal was to improve my physical fitness, but also demonstrate commitment and try something new. As the days passed, I realized that going to the gym was not only physically beneficial but also a relaxing and engaging activity, which further motivated me to attend everyday. 3 to 4 times a week in the morning I would go walking to the gym and do a workout or specific classes for 1 to 2 hours. Initially, I struggled to do certain exercises as I was not familiar with the machines but as time went on, with the help of personal trainers in the gym, I managed to improve my skills and do the exercises correctly. In addition, I really enjoyed this activity since some days I was accompanied by my friends, encouraging and providing me tips, making this activity entertaining and fulfilling. However, I overcame some challenges, including getting up early in the morning, doing the entire workout, and above all, being persistent and committed to the activity. Overall, this was a valuable experience where I was able to grow as a person in terms of learning about the importance of perseverance, also helped me improve my physical fitness, enhance my capacity of adapting to new challenges and the most important one, introducing me to a new way of enjoyment.

Despite not being skilled at baking, CAS encouraged me to challenge myself and embark on a new adventure. Given my strength in following instructions, I initially thought baking was going to be an easy task. To start I decided to make a simple recipe of vanilla cookies which was not really challenging as it required basic ingredients. However, calculating the baking time and making sure that the cookies were fully baked without burning them was a major challenge that I overcame by making all cookies the same width and length and also by checking them every two minutes, hence allowing them to cook consistently and evenly. Moreover, I decided to try and make something bigger and more challenging, a heart-shaped vanilla cake. This required additional steps, a wider range of ingredients and a more elaborated decoration. The recipe proved to be more complex which provided me with the opportunity to challenge my current abilities and expand my baking knowledge. As I was feeling confident and my birthday was coming soon, I decided to take a risk and bake my own birthday cake for the party. This was a difficult recipe that involved multiple ingredients, steps and detailed instructions. Luckily I had the help of two friends joining me which facilitated the process as we divided the task among ourselves. Together, we manage to make a heart-shaped vanilla and caramel cream cake, adorned with a lot of decorations on top. Some challengesSome challenges I faced were making the glaze and butter cream to cover the cake as I was experimenting with ingredients I had never used before. Overall, regardless of the complexities, all these experiences in the baking area allowed me to gain confidence in my baking capabilities, expand my knowledge and learn new techniques.

I have never had a specific sport that I focused on exclusively as my interests tend to vary a lot over time. I decided to start doing padel classes in order to explore and see if this sport was for me. I joined a local club and committed to attending classes twice a week with a private instructor. In the first classes, I realized I did have some previous experience as I used to play tennis as a child which helped me in padel. However, I also encountered some challenges such as hitting the ball with my non-dominant hand, but through persistent practice, I was able to overcome this obstacle and eventually master it. As the weeks went by, I noticed that I made a lot of progress and felt really proud of myself. I remained committed and attended every single class. Nevertheless, due to the demands of my studies, I was forced to miss a few classes. Despite this, my overall experience with the padel classes was really positive and exciting. The instructor even acknowledged my progress and encouraged me to to start participating in some matches to further improve and develop my skills. This feedback made me really happy and encouraged me even more to continue practicing.

The war in Ukraine is a devastating conflict that has led to major consequences in many lives. This was the main factor that drove me to participate in this experience aimed at helping Ukranians. Initially, my role was going around the classrooms to ensure students brought the assigned food and products for donation. Once the students were bringing the food, clothes, hygiene products, and other necessities, I was in charge of dividing, classifying and packing the items into different boxes so they were prepared for shipment. Organizing all the donated products was challenging, given the large amount of contributions received and the limited time we had, but working collaboratively with other classmates facilitated the entire process. The donations were given to the association “Prosvita”. Helping Prosvita made me value and appreciate my own possessions even more as well as feeling a sense of gratitude since I was able to empathize with the Ukranians and the situation they are facing. This experience not only allowed me to improve my efficiency under pressure but also further enhanced my teamwork skills. Moreover, it also helped me develop my organizational abilities. Apart from this, In order to encourage and incentivize students to participate and contribute to this worthy cause, myself and four other classmates decided to create an engaging video in which we also mention the products they needed to bring. This video contained rhymes, short and simple sentences to effectively raise awareness among students about the situation in Ukraine, fostering the desire to collaborate and empathize.

The Christmas market at my school, organized every year, offered me an opportunity to explore something new and participate in a market as a seller of baked goods. In this experience, I was responsible for baking cookie dough balls and packaging them attractively and also cake pops to sell at the market. Having the opportunity to sell baked goods at the market not only allowed me to showcase my baking skills gained from various previous experiences but also helped me improve my communication and organizational skills as I had to interact with clients and manage the inventory. I was also in charge of creating and decorating various posters displaying the name and prices of our different products in order to attract customers, which made me do an ethical price decision to choose the right price where customers feel they are getting a good value for money. Even though I don't consider myself a crafty person, this task helped me improve my skills. When my group and I arrived at the school Christmas market, we were in charge of setting up our stand, hanging the poserts and positionate our products in an appealing way. The process was effectively executed thanks to the collaborative efforts of the four of us working together. During the day at the christmas market, we came across periods of stress and complexity due to the high number of clients visiting our stand. However, we overcome these challenges by dividing the task among ourselves as well as helping each other. In the end, we managed to make a significant amount of money. This contributed positively to the final donation to the Ronald McDonald Association.

Ironman is a famous and complex triathlon event dedicated to the best athletes in which participants have to complete a total of 226.3 km encompassing swimming, running and cycling. In this event, my role was filling plastic cups with water and gatorade in order to hand it out to the passing runners with the aim of helping them stay refreshed and energized. Additionally, I was responsible for giving out gels, fruit and protein bars in the same way as the beverages. This task was quite challenging as most of the times, runners would miss catching the plastic cups, resulting in frustration. Moreover, shortages of water and accidental spills also added to difficulties. To overcome these challenges, I was able to collaborate with six other volunteers so the cups could be filled quickly. Apart from that, I positioned myself as close as possible to the runners, allowing for easier access to the items. Throughout the experience I recognized that the most important factor of the event was to ensure the well being and satisfaction of the participants so I tried to handle the situation with empathy, understanding their frustrations. Also, I aimed to provide fair assistance to ensure all the athletes had the opportunity to hydrate and nourish during the race.

Investigation: Primary school teachers proposed an activity to 3 classmates and I which involved creating a zumba class, halloween themed, for the students. We investigated and found 5 Halloween songs appropriate for dancing. Additionally, we researched zumba dance moves as we were not familiar with them in order to design a good zumba class for the students. Preparation: Once we had the songs selected, we started creating the different dances containing a wide variety of Zumba steps Action: When we created and learnt all the different dances, it was time to go on stage and show our talent. We did the zumba class for 5 different classes and when we were performing, the students seemed to love it and enjoy it. Reflection: In halloween, at my school, they always organize certain events for different classes. In this case my group and I were able to participate in an activity called “Zumba Zombie”. As a group, working collaboratively, we managed to create different dances for the 5 songs. I used to dance a lot so I had some skills which was beneficial to be creative about the dance moves but at the same time doing them simple to follow. I demonstrated commitment and perseverance by going every single day for a week at my school breaks and during my free time to a class in order to create and learn the choreography we were performing at the event.Choices had to be made in terms of choosing different dance moves and it was hard as we were 6 persons involved, all with different opinions and perspective. Therefore, considering the feelings of others and the situation itself, sometimes I had to agree with the rest when I didn't want to as well as choosing simple steps so it was easier to follow us. Furthermore the day of performance came. I was feeling really nervous as I saw a lot of kids in front of the stage waiting for us to dance. However at the end dancing in front of a great number of kids, ended up being good since we could see from the stage their smiles and laughs. This helped my nervousness and made me feel fulfilled and accomplished as I worked hard for it.Overall this experience has been really fun as I got to create my own dances which is something that I enjoy as well as teaching the dances to children which is something I had never done before.

For a long time, I have been seeking to go on an adventure that goes beyond mere hiking. Motivated by this, I started my research and came across the “Caminito del rey” in Málaga. The “Caminito del rey” is an exciting trail full of different bridges, stairs and captivating landscapes. When I arrived at the place, they explained to me about the safety regulations and instructions and they gave me a helmet to protect me in case the rocks move. This activity took four hours and proved to be quite demanding and difficult in terms of time, resilience and endurance. Initially, full of excitement, the journey was enjoyable. However, as time passed, the strong sun, lack of water and food, aching legs and numerous slopes, increased the difficulty and made me realize I was not well prepared for this adventure. There was a moment where I thought of giving up and turning back, but instead, I chose to make a last effort and complete the entire trail. Overall, at the end of the hike, I felt a sense of accomplishment and happiness and I also gained valuable knowledge about the history behind the place since throughout the journey they were a lot of signs and posters with information.

I have never practiced water sports so this summer I decided to buy a paddle surfboard and start going to the beach every morning to learn and master this sport. My goal with paddle surfing was to try something new, grow personally and show commitment, and also I believe this is a relaxing and engaging activity. 3 to 4 times a week in the morning I would go walking down to the beach to paddle surf for an hour and a half where I would practice different paddle boarding techniques. Initially, I struggled paddling fast and was afraid to stand up on the board because I didn't want to fall into the water since sometimes it was very cold, but as time went on, with determination and practice I managed to improve my balance while standing, got used to the cold water, and learned to row correctly and quickly. In addition, I really enjoyed this activity thanks to the fact that some days I was accompanied by my sister or my friends as we encouraged and helped each other by providing tips, making this activity entertaining and fulfilling. However, I had to overcome some challenges, including getting up early in the morning, inflating the board every day, and above all, being persistent and committed to the sport. Overall, this was a valuable experience where I was able to grow as a person, learn about perseverance, improve my physical fitness, develop a deeper appreciation to the environment, enhance my capacity of adapting to new challenges and the most important one, introducing me a new way of enjoyment outdoors

I had never learned how to ski before, as I always do snowboarding but for the Christmas holidays, my parents booked a trip to a snow center. Instead of snowboarding, I decided to try something different and new so I tried skiing. It was a five day trip and I had the opportunity to have a private instructor teaching me how to ski. On the first day, I felt quite weird as I was accustomed to the techniques of snowboarding, so making turns with the skis proved to be challenging. However, as I progressed, I realized how difficult it is advancing and becoming a skilled skier. I showcased perseverance and commitment through this experience as I attended ski classes for four hours every morning during the entire trip and also dedicated the afternoons to continue practicing on my own, determined to master this sport. On the last day, I successfully went down some more challenging slopes that I had never attempted before, which made me feel extremely proud of myself. Overall, despite the trip being short, I did acquire valuable skills and knowledge about skiing, especially in terms of going down slopes and executing difficult turns. It was a fulfilling experience that allowed me to expand my skills and embark into new adventures.

Over the two year course of the IB program, my involvement in CAS has brought me positive and transformative outcomes. I was able to venture out of my comfort zone and embark into a wide range of new experiences, each ecoking different feelings and insights. Through the course of CAS, I discovered new talents and hobbies, and engaged in various activities I had never tried or experienced before. This whole process helped me improve and develop my skills, abilities and knowledge in various areas and sectors. Moreover, by participating in experiences encompassing at least one of the strands of CAS, creativity, activity and service, I grew as a person, acquired greater and different knowledge and also broadened my perspective on distinct aspects of life. It also helped me open my mind to diverse ideas and viewpoints. In addition, CAS encouraged me to become more of a thinker, fostering critical and reflective thinking skills. The experiences allowed me to see a significant personal improvement such as enhancing my communication skills when interacting with different people, whether they are friends, classmates or strangers. My organizational and responsibility skills improved as well, as I learned how to manage my time effectively and efficiently and also take on leadership roles in various situations. Furthemore, the CAS experiences I did helped me become a more balanced individual in terms of integrating various new activities in my daily routine and promoting my well being, both physically and mentally. I also managed to develop a caring attitude towards the surrounding world due to my engagement in service activities that positively impacted my local community, as well as becoming a risk taker since I encountered a lot of new challenges where I got to learn how to navigate in unfamiliar situations with confidence.

Continue

Engaging in service experiences during the course made me view the world with different eyes. Providing my service in various fields and different associations not only allowed me to learn about these organizations and their roles and impact in the world, but also made me realize the significant issues occurring both globally and locally. These thoughts drove me to take action and involve myself in experiences in which I could help and contribute to addressing these issues, with the aim of improving the situation. Therefore, throughout all the service experiences I underwent, I became more grateful for my own circumstances and more aware of the importance of empathy and support to deal with these problems. Helping other people, associations and groups was a fulfilling process that contributed to my personal growth as well as improving my skills in numerous ways. I also developed a deeper understanding of the value of community and the importance of acting together and collectively. Through these experiences, I mainly enhanced my team working skills, becoming more compassionate and responsible. This journey has enriched my perspective and underscored the importance of contributing positively to society. The creativity strand was for sure the most challenging for me, but also the one that provided me the most opportunities for growth, new challenges, and the development and improvement of new capabilities. CAS compelled me to think outside the box and explore new creative experiences I could undertake. This pushed me to significantly improve my craft skills but also my imagination, as I was able to come up with various innovative ideas and projects. Engaging in creativity tasks helped me become a more open.minded person, fostering problem-solving techniques. These experiences not only enhanced my artistic capabilities but also fostered critical thinking, adaptability and useful skills valuable for my future.

Continue

Lastly, the activity strand proved to be really helpful and beneficial during the complex and stressful course for several reasons. Engaging in various physical activities not only changed me physically, as they involved a lot of physical activity and movement, but also had a profound impact on my mental well-being, enabling me to find peace, tranquility and relaxation through new activities. Additionally, the activity experiences intensified my appreciation for nature and taught me the importance of spending time outdoors and reducing screen time. Overall, the CAS program helped me develop a range of new skills that are invaluable in both academic and personal life. It allowed me to improve my organization and time management abilities, becoming more empathetic and generous as well as enhancing my public speaking, confidence and decision making skills. I also gained a deeper understanding of the impact of our action both collective and individual levels. This program taught me to appreciate more what I have and made me realize the importance of being an active member of society, and all its benefits. Additionally, I believe CAS made me become more proactive, creative, and service-oriented, which will undoubtedlñy benefit me in all future aspects of my life. CAS has changed me in an incredibly positive way, opening my eyes to a new perspective of the world and inspiring me to take actions and make a difference in the world.

My experience at Global Gift Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organization that aims to create a positive impact in the lives of children, women and families in need, was deeply rewarding. I had the opportunity to volunteer at “Casa Angeles”, a day center for children with special needs, with the aim of improving their quality of life and that of their families. One of the activities we organized was creating personalized Fathers Day Cards with the children in the waiting room. This allowed me to interact more with the kids, learn about them and make their therapy waiting time more entertaining. I really enjoyed this activity and seeing the smiles of the children while decorating the cards was truly heartwarming. Next, we organized an easter-themed activity event where I was in charge of helping children decorate and dye eggs as well as customizing bags. This was a creative and exciting experience that the kids enjoyed. However, it was challenging due to the great number of kids willing to participate in the event but as a group we managed to make every single kid do and enjoy the activity. It was really rewarding seeing the children excited and the colorful results of their work. Moreover, for another event, we decided to set up a craft station in the waiting room where the children could make bookmarks as the day of the book was coming soon. This gave them the opportunity to express their imagination and I was impressed by their designs and the concentration during the activity.

More

Furthermore the next event was related to the book fair and consisted of our group collecting books at our school to donate to them for the fair. Additionally, in the fair we had a game stand which was really fulfilling as we got to see the children having a good time. Finally, as halloween approached, we decorated a door at Casa Angeles for a competition and the next day we greeted the kids and handed out toys when they came trick or treating. Seeing their reactions to the decorations, games, and small gifts made me incredibly happy. Overall, through the variety of experiences, I was able to create and develop meaningful connections with the children and other volunteers at Casa Angeles. Also, I got to learn a lot about the associations, including their goals and objectives as well as the lives of the families that came to the house and all the challenges they face. This entire project really changed me as a person in terms of allowing me to apply my creativity and organization skills as well as helping me improve my communication capabilities. Working with Global Gift during the IB course was a fulfilling process that pushed me out of my comfort zone and really taught me the importance of teamwork, empathy and service. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with this organization and it for sure changed my mind and inspired me to continue seeking ways to positively impact my local and global community.
