Placemat COnsensus: On your quadrant, write your glows and grows regarding your vocabualry instruction this year. Round Robin at your table: Each person takes a turn to share your response. Start with the Youngest person in your group. Come to consensus: Summarize your Answers in the center parts of everyone’s answer should be included. **Challenge Mode: Make your consensus answer a $2 Summary. Each word is worth 10 cents.

  • We learned the Seven Steps Vocabulary Introduction Strategy.
  • We learned that research shows it takes more than 10 encounters with a word over a period of time in order for the word to become part of long-term memory.
  • We discussed the statistical connections between crime and illteracy.

  • We learned how important morphology is to vocabualry instruction.
  • We shared graphic organizers that aid in vocabulary instruction.

Choose tier 2 words students will see in a variety of contexts and essesntial tier 3 words for each unit. (Doing this together as a PLC is helpful)

Practice the words in a variety of ways. Be sure to highlight the words in readings and discussions emphasizing morphology for maximum cross over benefit.

Use graphic organizers and learning games to deepen students' understanding and for the repetition necessary for the words to become part of their long-term memory.

Pre-teach the words following the Pre-Teaching Vocabualry in 7 Steps protocol.
