Alan menken
Born July 22, 1949 in New York, Alan Menken is most well known for his work on Disney movie sound tracks. Some of his works include Beauty and the Beast, Hercules, Tangled, Newsies, Pocahontas, The Little Mermaid, and Aladdin. He originally studied a premed program, but soon switched to a music degree. His first big break came when he worked together with lyricist Howard Ashman to create the music to Little Shop of Horrors. The Little Mermaid was Menken's first Disney show. Throughout his career, Alan Menken has won eight Academy Awards, nine Oscars, and 11 Grammy Awards.

producing
The idea for a new musical can come from a writer, composer, or performer, but it can be realized only by a producer. He or she must raise the money for the production. The amount of money required is called the capitalization. This amount must cover not only getting the show to opening night but also creating a financial cushion for several weeks or months until the show catches on with audiences and makes a profit.
if you invested $1,000 in Oklahoma! in 1943 and it cost $100,000 to produce, you would get 1percent of the profits each week. If Oklahoma! had flopped, you would have lost all your money; luckily, the show was a big hit, and anyone who did invest $1,000 received $2.5 million. That’s why there’s no business like show business!

cost of disney
Disney musicals are known for beautiful costumes, intricate sets, and amazing actors. Because of the huge upfront cost of getting a Disney musical to opening night, it usually takes at least a year or more to earn back the initial investment. Disney is such a large and profitable company that it can afford to wait for the profits when most other producers cannot and would have to close the show!
