Lots of Google Doc users have had the unfortunate experience where a shared doc has been unintentionally edited by other users. Both of these techniques allow users to get their own COPY of the doc.

Force Copy
The user already knows they want a copy of the doc.
The user may already have a copy of the doc.
The user may have already worked with the doc.
The user may want to see exactly what is part of the doc.
Open Doc - Click Share - Change Setting to "Anyone with Link"
Open Doc - Click Share - Change Setting to "Anyone with Link"
Copy - Paste Link wherever you are sharing
Copy - Paste Link wherever you are sharing
Edit the link - replace "edit" and all else with "template/preview"
Edit the link - replace "edit" and all else with "copy"
*Don't use the quotation marks
