grading criteria
In order to guarantee adequate monitoring of our students, grading criteria have been established. Students will be assessed based on 5 skills that will appear on the group pedcard when the lesson is registered.
- Comprehension
- Fluency
- Pronunciation
- Structures
- Vocabulary
When a student is given a very high or low grade, the country coordination and the quality department follow up to take corrective measures in case the student is over or underperforming. These measures may include:
- Change student group or level.
- Send study plans.
- Offer personalized tutoring to the student.
- Send written improvement commitments.
Why should we be thoroughwhen grading our students?
If the student does not have the required language skills for his/her next level and the instructor never gave the correct grades, the responsibility lies with Berlitz and, more specifically, with the instructor.
If the instructor never gave the correct grades to his/her students, major ramifications can emerge. These may include:
- Students at advanced levels with basic language skills.
- Groups behind pace due to the disparity of levels
- Students requesting refunds due to lack of follow-up.
- Students repeating levels without having been notified throughout their learning process.
- Frustrated and dissatisfied students for not feeling comfortable with their current level.
- Disciplinary measures for the instructor for using generic scores when grading students.
what can happen as A result of not grading our students correctly?
what grading scale do we use?
We use a scale from 1 to 5 in order to grade our students. This scale is not as inductive as you would think, so pay attention to the following criteria
Grades that can be managed within the context of the current level.
"Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur dipiscing ut magna aliqua"
The student is somewhat familiar with some of the contents of the program and he/she is above level when compared with his/her classmates.
The student is good for the level. His/her language skills are not above or below the contents of the current level.
The student has some difficulties with the contents of the current level. He/she may require tutoring and study plans.
Author's Name
GRADES THAT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE ACTION FROM COORDINATION AND QUALITY
The student does not have the required language skills and he/she should be in a lower level.
The contents of the level do not represent anything new or challenging for the student.
LET'S TRY TO ASSESS SOME STUDENTS.
Remember you need to calibrate your expectations based on the level your students are currently taking. A level 1 student, in spite of their basic mistakes, may be a solid 3, whereas a level 8 student may be a 1 for making basic simple past mistakes.
Goal:
Tell my classmates about my 2023 resolutions.
Hans

Viviana
Level 2 student
Goal:
Introduce myself and describe my spouse to my classmates.
Alexandra

Derick

Level 9 Student

Final thoughts
Remember grading your students correctly can make or break their learning process. Thoroughly assessing their language skills will ensure that the right course of action will be taken and that the student will recieve proper guidance and follow-up.
