Christmas in Europe

Christmas was first celebrated in Europe in 336 AD! Because of it's long history in the region, many countries in Europe have their own unique traditions. Not everyone in Europe celebrates Christmas on december 24th or 25th and many Orthodox countries, like Russia or Serbia, celebrate it in January.

Christianity was recorded as early as the 1st century in Africa, in Egypt. This Means that Africa has the second oldest tradition of Christmas in the form of the Coptic Kiahk and the Ethiopian Orthodox Gena that are celebrated in january. Outside of Egypt, Sudan, and Ethiopia, most African countries celebrate Christmas like they do in the Americas and Europe
