How to survive your Christmas office party as a real professional
Answer
Do you like office parties? Why?What was the worst/best office party you've ever been to? What do you usually do at office parties? Do you have any funny stories about office parties? Do you have any tips how to survive office parties?
Create an action plan
It doesn’t matter that it's a party. Don't forget that it's a corporate party after all. So, be a professional and create your action plan. Do you want to avoid that manager from Finance and hint to your boss about the annual bonus? After a few glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, it will be hard to remember your plans. Write them down and put the paper in your pocket.
Document everything
If you want your office party to be not just fun but you’re intending to get the best of the event, document everything. Take pictures or film videos. Who knows, you might capture something that will help you with your promotion. !But remember: Always let someone else be drunker than you (what if they might have read this article, too)
Dress up
I know it’s tempting to put on your best suit/dress. But a real professional will think twice. Remember that this is a Christmas party and everyone might not even be sober enough to notice your outfit. Be practical, remember that your dress should be wine-stains-proof, able to increase size twofold, and transform into a taxi (just in case)
Network
Unfortunately, shop talk is frowned upon at the events like Christmas parties. But you’re a professional and you know that an office party is just a big networking event. So prepare three A4 pages of small talk questions. Take it out of your pocket every time you have to interact with coworkers. Chances are that after a couple of interactions people will get it and you won’t have to interact for the rest of the evening.
